ST+M: Elf on the Shelf

Well, I caved. Today we bought one of those creepy Elf on the Shelf dolls/book. I swore I never would... when will I learn as a mom to never say never?

I'm looking for some of your favorite elf... activities? Positions? Shenanigans? Whatever you want to call it. Keep in mind that I have a strong sense of humor and I would like to incorporate that.

Ugh. That reminds me that my mom gave us one last year, but I got out of doing it because DS was too young. I should probably start this year. Watching for fun ideas.

I don't get when people make the elf do bad things. Isn't the point of him to watch the kids for Santa? I just put him in different spots.

My dd's 1st grade teacher had the elf crash their classroom and all the desks were piled in the middle of the room with elf sitting on top of the pile. The kids thought it was great.

We do it and have a lot of fun with it.

We have had the elf play poker with some of the girls' toys. He has dyed our milk blue, ate popcorn while watching a movie, rapelled from the ceiling fan and colored in their coloring books.

DD1's birthday is in December so he has decorated the living room for her birthday and brought her a little gift.

He brings snacks that are mini sizes like muffins, donettes, etc.

I have one, but dd is still too small (will be 22mos for Christmas) that I think we will just read her stories this year and actually play next year or maybe the year after.

Omg. My DD would flip her lid. Ahhh! I can't wait to do this one. She is serious about her lucky charms.

I don't like when the elf does mean or "naughty" things--seems kind of counter-productive to me, since the whole idea is that he is watching the kid to make sure he/she is being good.

We are not going to use the Elf as a correction tool. That's just ridiculous and will not teach my 2.5yr old anything.
