First 24 hours alone with two kids

DH is a firefighter/paramedic, and after almost two weeks at home, he had to go back to the station today. He works 24hrs, so this is my first day alone with my 12 day old LO and my four year old.

My mom was supposed to come over, but she came down with a sinus infection. I'm technically not supposed to drive, yet, and it's gloomy outside today. So, I'm a little anxious about keeping DS1 entertained indoors while taking care of DS2.

DS2 is a good nurser, but I'm also having to pump some. Luckily, he's not too much of a "hold me" baby. But I do love holding him! STM and TTM, any advice or suggestions on surviving this day?

  • No experience with two little ones at home. The only thing I can suggest is trying to enjoy it as much as you can. Watch you and DS's fave movies, have snuggle time with the three of you, order pizza, little things that are kind of fun. It should help take the edge off. You'll do great!

  • I had my first experience with this on friday. My advice is to be patient with the older child. My oldest is 2 1/2 and doesnt not like having to wait. Shes slowly learning that when mommy is pumping or changing bubby's diaper, her movie/drink/whatever that she needs is going to have to take the back seat for 15 minutes.

it was hard for me to be patient with her because it really was overwhelming having the both of then alone for the first time. im hoping with time itll become easier as she learns patience alone with me and when she learns that her brother is fragile and she has to be careful with him. Good luck!
