She needs to sleep!!!

My LO is not getting nearly enough sleep! She sleeps great in the car- and that's it! She's growing out of her swaddles and we started using the Merlin Sleepsuit last week which makes it easy to transfer her to bed once drowsy/asleep... But she still moves around a ton (especially her arms) and wakes herself up soon after.
What is your secret for naps?? We think the room is too bright so we're buying blackout shades today...but besides that I'm at a lost! We use the white noise, watch for her cues so she's not overtired, try to be consistent with times, etc.
Any advice? I'm hooping to find a swaddle sleep sack large enough but everything I'm finding online is NB or small.

No nap advice dd fights them like they are the plague! But we do use the halo sleep sacks with the swaddle arms. They make them in size 3-6 months and are roomy in the leg area. Eta: I got them at BRU.

  • Do you have a swing? Have you tried having her nap in there?

If you rock her to sleep, will she transition to the crib? Dd likes to be bounced in my arms, then usually I can put her in her bassinet or RNP.

Also, she can normally fall asleep on her own in the swing if she's drowsy.

  • I have to walk and rock my lo for about 5 minutes before he falls asleep. Once he's out I put him in his swing. I've been trying to get him to nap in his crib, but he doesn't sleep in there for too long. Good luck!!
  • Oh I feel your pain! Our little man was sleeping in 30 minute increments during the day… He just would not get past the first sleep cycle. So frustrating! We tried swaddled in the crib, Merlin suit in the crib, rock n play in his room, and we even moved the swing into his room to see if he could nap longer in there away from everyone. Didn't work.
In the past week, I've gotten a few longer naps, by swaddling, and putting him in the swing in the living room.
I put the iPad next to him on really loud white noise, and it seems to do the trick.

Originally, I thought that napping in the swing in the living room was a bad idea with my loud toddler, but it seems to be the only way that it works for him.
  • We have a swing and she use to nap in it- but not anymore. She just woke up from a 30 minute nap in the swing. This was her third 30 minute nap today.im about to just drive around with her so that she'll nap longer!
  • If someone knows the trick on how to get my baby to sleep past that 30min cycle during a nap, I will pay you for the tip. We just have lots of short naps around here. Lots.

We swaddle, white noise, crib, bassinet, bassinet in crib, swing in room, swing in living room, car, etc. he's like a clock. Eyes pop open at 30mins on the dot.

  • I'd be at a loss without the swing. Thankfully he still naps well in it. Glad I'm not the only mom relaying on the magical swing powers...was starting to feel bad relying on it all the time.

At night, I just have to make sure that my arms are wrapped around him until he is in deep sleep. He likes being snuggled tightly, but hates being swaddled - go figure!
  • Another thirty min napper. Ped said to just let her sleep as she wants. She sleeps great at night though. She starts getting sleepy around 8 and is usually out by 9.

  • Great night sleeper and terrible napper here too. My girl attacks her face. We swaddle and put her in the RnP. I sometimes have to rock it fast with my foot too.

  • I bought a larger Swaddleme size at target. It's 14-20 pounds I think. GL!

Yep. This! Even driving doesn't work for us. He will sleep in the carseat *sometimes* but only 30 minutes. And if he's not sleeping, he's screaming.
  • This is crazy that other babies are quick nappers, I thought it was just my baby, but yes thirty mintues and then up.
And then gets fussy because he hasn't had sleep, oh my baby I wish he loved sleep as much as his mommy does
  • Have you thought about looking into a woombie maybe?

The 30 minute nap is more popular than I thought! We just got another 40 min. nap out of her in the car- went to BRU to get a swaddle sleepsack since she's outgrown the large swaddleme. I think my LO is just really long!! Haven't tried the Woombie but it might be next if the swaddle sleepsack doesn't work.
Oh, and they are BOGO half off at BRU right now.
  • White noise or any kind of noise helps a lot... The baby got colic song has been a lifesaver!! Although we still have trouble successfully laying him down without him waking .... Someone needs to develop a blanket or device that mimics arms...

  • My LO only cat naps. I get maybe one nap that lasts longer than an hour each day. But he seems fine..

This has saved my life. I love our Woombie, but we are going to try and get her in the magic sleep suit next week. If it doesn't work, I'll probably get another Woombie because she's almost grown out of the original one.

  • Ladies, do not fear. This is just a baby phase. Don't know why, but every mom I know has gone through this, including me with both my boys. For whatever reason around the three month mark, the napping for only 30 minutes crap starts. I promise, they will get over it and start napping on a more regulated schedule. By 4 months, DS1 was napping for an hour each morning and several hours in the afternoon.
Just do the best you can. For DS1, the swing was our key for longer naps. Some it's the carseat. For DS2, it seems to be the carseat or his crib. I keep noise down a little bit and make sure he's warm enough.
    Good luck!

  • Another 30 minute napper here, but he sleeps great at night (5-8 hour stretches) so I can't complain.

  • Another 30 minutes napper here. I can pretty much set the clock by my LO. Whether it's in the car, crib, bassinet, stroller or even on me, at 30 mins her eyes pop open and there's no resettling her. We've had this since about 7 weeks old and she's now 15 weeks old.

She sleeps great at night though. She did a 10 hour stretch up front last night. Just doesn't do day naps and we are lucky to get 1.5 hours total a day.

It's kind of starting to get a bit frustrating though because I get nothing done and feel like all day is about trying to get naps in.

  • I'm lucky if he makes it to 30 minutes!  But he sleeps like a champ at night and doesn't seem overly tired.  He's a happy baby now.  So whatever.  He naps when he naps.
  • Dd is part of the 30 min nap club! Every once and a awhile this week, I might get an hour. It's driving dh crazy because he's the one home during the day. She's becoming a better night sleeper so I'll take that over naps.

  • My big one was a 45min napper. He didn't consolidate until 8ish months. He was down to one nap by 10months.

However, he still naps at 3.5 (for 2+ hours), so I'll take it.

  • I used to use the swing more often for naps but we moved the rocking chair into LOs room so I rocket her and then transfer her to the crib. It's easier than picking her up out of the swing and taking her to the crib. She transitions better.

I do need darker curtains especially since the sun now comes up at 5am. Lol.
  • My baby has been taking 30 min naps since 7 weeks old. It sucks but I just put her down every hour and half. I think it's biological. Nothing works for me.
