Our crib does not convert so we are looking into beds for my DS. Both of my sisters put their kids straight into full beds with rails and I always loved that idea because you're not having to buy them a new bed all the time, they are roomy enough so I can crawl in there if I need too and my niece has been in the same bed for 10 years. But I feel like a full bed would take up so much room I would not have enough space for his train table and chest of drawers
Re: Toddler bed, twin or full bed?
DS went from crib to twin bed, with rails b/c he STILL falls out if we are visiting family and not sleeping with a rail on the bed (other side is against the wall). DD will go from crib to twin bed AND DS will get her convertable crib full bed. He has the bigger room and it will work.
I would easily say get the twin and leave room for the train table and toys. He's going to get more out of play than an bigger bed. That's the route we're going for DD's room. More room to play.
DS #1 born January 2010. DS #2 due June 2014.
Crib could've been made into a toddler bed, but we went on vacation and he did fine in a bed with a rail and we just didn't feel like doing the transition twice, so we didn't bother.
The bonus has been that if he's sick or up at night we can crawl in with him and actually be comfortable! HOORAY!
FWIW - we bought rails but they were a waste of money. We seriously started leaving the side we put him in /out of down permanently about a week in.
