Soft cup vs. Diva?

edited November 2013 in LGBT Parenting
Good morning! I am in a hetero marriage but my husband is mostly unable to ejaculate during sex. While we wait for my referral Dr. appt. I thought we could give the cups a try, just looking for a recommendation of which kind? I do already have a Diva cup and have used soft cups - I was just wondering which one seemed more user friendly full of sperm ;P. I thought you guys might be the pros in this area. Thanks!

Re: Soft cup vs. Diva?

  • I have not used either, we use a sterile cup (similar that you would pee in at the dr office) and then use a needless syringe to insert the sperm.  We have purchased the items from a medical supply store and also got a few from our RE office.

Best of luck to you and your husband!

  • @Kaysa2 - he would ejaculate into the cup and then we would insert it over the cervix for an hour or so to get the sperm where they need to go - he isn't able to ejaculate during sex very often due to sensitivity issues so it's tough to actually get the sperm anywhere near the cervix LOL. Thanks @trishoilio!

We used the softcup for our first two at-home ICI's. Neither of those resulted in a positive, but I did feel like the sperm was in the right place and able to get where it needed to go. One of the most important things to do, practice. The second most important thing to make sure to do is to have an orgasm. I know that might be a personal thing and TMI to talk about but do some research and you'll see why I'm giving you that advice. Best of luck.

  • Yeah, I'd definitely try to orgasm if I was doing ICI.  It contracts all the organs and helps pull the sperm into your uterus.  We orgasm for a reason, right? :)

During IUI, though, I don't think it really matters because the sperm is already in the uterus.  They'll make it up to the Fallopian tubes on their own.

Good luck!  I'd try to find a cup that was comfortable in your situation.  Maybe some pre-seed to help it out a little?  I've heard a lot of straight folks talk about that being helpful for them.
