Babies: 6 - 9 Months

What are your cycles like?

I got my period back at 12 wks PP. I've had one every month since then (4 in total). They came back between 26-29 days. Well now it's been 35 days (Sunday). I know it's normal for periods to be irregular after birth, but I figured since I've had them every month so far, maybe they'd just keep coming.

I'm stil EBF. I'm wondering if sleep deprevation is enough to delay it??

If you've gotten yours back, have they been really wonky?

Re: What are your cycles like?

  • Mine were very irregular after DD. I also was EBF, didn't get AF till around 9 months PP, and had cycles ranging from 29-62 days long. That was how things were till my 2nd pregnancy. I still haven't had AF this time around and I'm 4mos. PP. It's the hormonal changes, not the sleep deprivation.

I guess I just feel like my body is "back to normal" & not dealing with hormone changes anymore. So just wait it out then?

Yep. It's pretty normal to have weird cycles after pregnancy and, even after they seem to settle down, they can change again if you ovulate late. 35 isn't an extremely long cycle but you can call your doctor if you get to 60 days or so without AF. They might decide to jump start things or they may just have you wait it out if they think it's normal PP.

My 3rd PP cycle I freaked out thinking I was pregnant again (mini pill was our BC choice) so I took a HPT, which came back negative. I called my doctor and she said to not worry, just wait it out till 60 days since I had a BFN. That cycle ended up being 52 days long.

  • I've been on the pill (LoEstrin FE) since about 8wks PP.  I hadn't had a regular AF yet and for the first 4 months I was just spotting every 4 weeks for maybe 2 days.  Then in October I had what I assume was my first real AF and it was horrible - lasted about 5 days and was real heavy for almost all of them.  Nothing yet in November (it'll probably happen the day we're getting DD baptized while I'm wearing a cream dress).  I have had PMS symptoms with each of the spotting times and especially with the AF in October - cramping, super tired, irritable.  I don't think I'm "back to normal" yet.

Hahaha mine came in September when DS was getting baptized!! I was " praying to God" that nothing would happen!!

  • Thanks for this discussion post! I just had my first period PP 15 days ago and my clear blue easy kit still hasn't detected ovulation. We are trying for #2 so trying to figure it all out.
