Small victories

The past two nights, LO has done a couple feedings without the nipple shield! He just latched on last night before I could get the damn thing on. I am super excited. It gives me hope that someday soon I can stop stressing about where that llittle freakin piece of plastic is.

Anyone else have a moment of win lately?

That gives me hope! Did you do anything differently or did LO do it on their own?

  • @subliminalrabbit How did you discover what size flanges you need? Did you go somewhere or did you just try different sizes on your own? I've long wondered if my pumping sessions would be better with a smaller flange size. I typically only get 2-3 ounces per pumping session (15-20 minutes) unless I manage to get a second let down, which doesn't happen very often unless I pump for 30 minutes. If you don't mind answering, how much milk did you get per session before the new flange sizes? How much do you get now?
  • The last 2 nights Ben has slept one 6-7 hour stretch. Hallelujah! I was almost afraid to say it for fear of jinxing myself. He has been all over the map with his sleep habits but never more than a few hours at a time on avg since he was born. For a few weeks we got lucky with one 4-5 hour stretch, but then he regressed. Like @WasNotWas said, if I could only make myself go to bed at 8:30 then I'd be golden! Hope this little phase sticks around for awhile. Momma needs some sleep.

  • @subliminalrabbit I also use the 21/24 combo. It didn't increase my output but it did increase my comfort. I don't get more than 4.5 ounces tops from my first morning session and then 3-4 after that. Thankfully I appear to have fatty milk as my boys are/were happy with 3-3.5 oz bottles.

Absolutely! He actually lost 1.5 lbs in 4 days this past week because he wasn't eating nearly as much (due to the RSV). Yesterday and today he's been eating like a champ though, so pretty sure he's gained it back.

  • @subliminalrabbit how can you tell you have a lot of foremilk? I never knew there was a way you could tell?

Geesh poor guy...I have so much sympathy for the mommies of skinny babies, DS1 was a skinny baby and when he would lose or wouldn't gain weight it was SO STRESSFUL. It's a lot easier with a chunkster for sure

Well, in the AM that first bottle is bluish greenish tinged and after sitting in the fridge for hours it barely builds a fat layer. Additionally, E's poop is always green unless I do extreme block feeding (like 3-4 sessions on one boob), which tanks my supply in the weaker breast. My pediatrician and LC said just offer one breast each session and if E is hungry again within the hour I'll block feed.
I think you're my boob twin! This is exactly how bfing goes for us too.
