Interesting.....although SO is such a huge computer/electronic nerd I doubt I can talk him out of his interest in buying one. He has his heart set on $300+ ones too!
I use my video camera a few times a month and love it. I insisted on getting one before DS took his first steps because I wanted it on camera. It's a Sony DV that DH bought like 2 years ago.
I have the sony Nex-f3 camera and love it. Yes my phone still gets used because its more convenient but the NEX camera takes MUCH better photos/videos. I've gotten some beautiful shots with the camera, the pictures on my phone just cannot compare. The NEX shots can potentially be blown up/framed.
My only regret was I didn't get one that I could use a remote with. Id love to take some family shots with me in them but can't remote trigger the NEX-F3
I have a Galaxy S3 and the camera blows, so I don't video a lot on there. I have a DSLR and a Flip camera and use them way more for quick videos. The Flip is especially convenient since its so small and shoots in HD.
"I wanted you more than you'll ever know, so I sent love to follow wherever you go."
When we were recently camera shopping the salesmen explained that most of the nicer cameras have video capability that is equivalent if not better than the typical video cameras. So we opted for a really nice camera with awesome video capabilities. Yes, I use my iPhone a ton but I also use my camera & love it. I take my own monthly photos & special occasion photos. Just something to think about.

This, nowadays its pointless to have a dedicated video camera
@cece2862. Just use a USB cord to plug it in...should pop up a box on your computer and you can down load pix and videos...just as you would if you plug a camera in to your computer.

Edit: and I Do have a good camera on my phone
