Sharp Pain On my Lower Right Side. Any Ideas?:(

I am 33 weeks. I just experience sharp pain in my lower right side last night like almost drop to the ground pain! If I roll to my left side it pulls then I get sharp stabbing pain on right side! I experience this last week but not as painful like last night. I am thinking it is round ligament pain and/or normal stretching of all my internal junk/muscles.  I laid down and took a nap and rolled over in my sleep and BAM f**king excruciating pain there. Like involuntary tears. I got up and it felt some better but on and off it hurts pretty badly. It hurts constantly.. but every so often it gets excruciating again. Baby is moving fine, and no other issues. I am not feverish or in any other pain. No pain or discharge. I honestly feel like it is just severe round ligament pain. However I wondered if any of you other ladies have had similar pain, and if it was round ligament or something else?? Thanks. :)

  • I get that sometimes too if I roll over in bed sometimes. I have to sit up completely before changing sides. I assume it is just normal pregnancy stuff but it wouldn't hurt to mention it to your Dr if you are concerned.

    Sorry you're hurting.

  • I get that too after lying on one side and having to switch. I put it down to baby's position in there. I take my time when turning over now.
  • I got sharp pains like that when I was dehydrated.  They went away after I practically chugged water all day.

  • Lately, I've had these on my right side. Feels kind of like a stich (bad side ache), but much lower. The muscles feel like the are being painfully stretched. It's impossible to ignore and it's lasted for hours before, but ultimately comes and goes.

I mentioned it to my OB because I was actually still having the pain during my 36 week visit. She said it was a combo of BH and the baby's low position. Nothing to be alarmed about.

If you're worried though, it never hurts to call your OB.

  • I get a lower right side pain a lot also! Sometimes it's worse than others and I think it has to do with either the baby's positioning or how much moving around I do throughout the day!

I had this just last night -- woke up with a sharp pain on my right side so bad it took my breath away. After I stood up and walked a bit back and forth it subsided. I think the baby may have been laying on an internal organ or something...at least that's what it felt like. ;) In all seriousness, I think it's normal as long as it goes away and isn't constant.

  • Same thing happened to me when I rolled over in bed. It was really sharp and felt like I pulled a muscle or something. I happened to have an ultrasound that day so they checked the area and there was nothing there. The dr said more then likely it was muscular.

  • I was having pain on the right side in my pelvic area and then also experienced swelling only on the right side.  I went to the dr and turn out I have a varicose vain on my vagina which is causing swelling and pains to my right side constantly.  I have read up on this and it is common and only occurs on the right side for some reason.  This could be a possible cause for the pain you are experiencing.
  • I think drinking extra water might help... i had this so much through my pregnancy and when I went into triage for contractions they said i needed to keep sucking down water all day, and every since then I haven't had it! it was a horrible stabbing pain in my right side, im so glad its gone. And I thought I was already drinking enough water now I drink about 16 glasses a day
