My DD is Johanna and we pronounce it as Joe Hannah. (Basically, Joanna with a non-silent "H" in the middle.)
It gets mispronounced all. the. time. We get Jo Anna, Yo Hah Na, and Jo Hah Na.
If someone says Jo Anna we correct them because to me, that's a different name. If they say Yo Hah Na or Jo Hah Na (like if they call it out in the pediatrician's waiting room), I never correct them because to me it's the same name, just a different pronunciation. And I love those pronunciations too and think they are just as pretty as the way we pronounce it.
I do believe Yo Hah Na is the "original" pronunciation and Joe Hannah is "made up".
There's a Bob Dylan song, though, Visions of Johanna, and he says it Joe Hannah.
All but one person I have known with this name pronounced it Jo Anna. Until now I always assumed the one person (that I know) that pronounces it Jo-Hahn-a was being pretentious. Whoops. It could also be a difference in locations. I am in Canada, and the one girl is in the US.
