angel care monitor & a wedge?

anyone reflux mommas using an AC monitor?

I'm almost positive our pedi is going to discontinue our apnea monitor today and I might night sleep again w/o the monitor. But he has to be elevated (he's been sleeping on a boppy in his PNP to be honest)

Can this work?

Re: angel care monitor & a wedge?

  • Do you mean the Boppy pillow or the Boppy wedge?

DS slept on the Boppy wedge in his bassinet for a few weeks and we put the sensor under the bassinet mattress which is very thin(like less than an inch) It worked great. When we moved him to his crib, the crib matress and wedge together were a bit too much. We kept getting false alarms which lost the affect of the monitor since everytime it sounded we would take turns getting out of bed and slowly go in to turn it off with absolutly NO sense of urgency.

After one night of that we put the sensor under the ultimate crib sheet with the wedge on that. It worked but I was not comfortable with that setup. I didn't like the whole electrical wire between a sheet and mattress thing, it made me nervous. We ended up getting rid of the wedge since he kept sliding off of it and would end up completely off the dang thing. Now we just use a sleep positioner with the sensor under the mattress.

The angelcare monitor was the BEST gift we got at our shower. We both sleep so great knowing that if anything happens....we will be alerted. It is like haing an apnea monitor.

  • I forgot...If i needed the incline...I would get this. You could put the board and sensor right underneath it in the PNP or crib.

  • We have a crib wedge and it works fine with the angel care monitor.

Completely unrelated, but the wedge does not work fine with Marino rolling! I wake up and he is horizontal at the bottom of his crib half the time.

  • Ooooh, I think I want one of these for when we get to ditch our monitor!  Is there a big difference btw the regular angelcare monitor and the deluxe edition?

  • thanks for the info girls.

It turns out, she's going to let us keep the monitor for the winter, just to use at night for my peace of mind and in case he gets sick. ("If he gets RSV, you'll want it." *sigh*)

To answer the question, he actually sleeps on a Boppy PILLOW. I have a blanket stretch across it so it makes a little nest. COMPLETELY against back-to-sleep rules, but my doctor agrees it's best for him. which is why I HAVE to have something to monitor him. I'm so paranoid. (I would have been anyway, this just makes it worse.)

I've looked at those incline beds.. I'll keep those in mind for when we graduate a bit. For now, I'm feeling pretty lucky to keep the apnea monitor.

  • Just wanted to mention, we actually elevated the legs of the pnp and eventually the crib on one side so that we could use the angelcare and still get the elevated sleep he needed. We just put small blocks under the legs on one end.

  • I'm glad you get to keep your monitor--I know what peace of mind that can give!

I don't post much, but just wanted to let you know device we got in case you want to look into it after you have to return the apnea monitor.  We got our son the Respisense monitor after he got out of the NICU because I was paranoid and I couldn't sleep since I kept checking to see if he was breathing.  It's basically a small monitor that we attach to his diaper and it detects movement.  If no movement is detected for 15 seconds it gives a little buzz similar to a pager to help stimulate him (We paid more and got the buzz model).  If it still doesn't detect movement for 5 more seconds than in alarm will sound.  I like this because it's portable (I attach it to him in his car seat so that it gives me peace of mind when I am driving) and I don't have to worry about him moving off of a sensor pad and giving a false alarm.  Hope that helps!

  • That sounds awesome, orchid.. I think I'll look into that.
