So my MIL arrived from out if town to late last night (visit has been planned for weeks). She's staying with us until Monday evening. LO and I were already asleep when she and DH got back from the airport, so they didn't have any interaction last night. This morning, MIL says she woke up with pink eye (conjunctivitis). She got her doc to call a prescription into the local pharmacy and picked it up this morning. I know pink eye is highly contagious and that only after you've been using the ointment for 24 hours does the risk of transmitting it go down. I made it clear that she cannot touch/hold LO because she is contagious. She seems to think this is unreasonable because she's washing her hands a lot. DH thinks that after 24 hours (tomorrow morning/afternoon), it should be fine. I'm not comfortable with having her hold LO even once the 24 hours are up - why risk it? I will be the one caring for LO if she gets sick, and knowing it was preventable would kill me.
Am I being unreasonable? WWA13D? I have no problem putting my foot down but don't want to cause trouble if I'm being ridiculous and overprotective.

Re: Am I being unreasonable - MIL has pink eye
I quarantined DH when he had a cold though, so I might be a little extreme. He stayed in the opposite end of the house and slept in the nursery.
It's your baby, you decide. Like you said, you'll be dealing with the consequences if LO gets sick.

"If you're still my small babe
or you're all the way grown,
my promise to you
is you're never alone.
You are my angel, my darling,
my star...and my love will find you,
wherever you are."
But it's totally up to you. I don't think you are being unreasonable by keeping LO away.
JUST KIDDING.
And no your not being unreasonable... Too bad mil couldn't look past her own selfish desires and understand that it's what's best for the baby... smh.

I heart you, BabyE. I just do.
Now of course i would go with 24 hours and hand washing etc but she had it and none of the rest of the family got it and that was with me touching her eye 4 times a day to put the ointment in.
Good hand washing and no touching eyes and I would say don't put her face near LOs face. (No kissing on her).
I am also a BTDT mom though who has had to be a Mom with a lot worse illnesses. You don't get to just stop mothering when you have the flu etc. So yeah...I might be a bit less dramatic about this type of thing...
