Sleep sack question

We are trying to transition Jack from his magic sleep suit to a sleep sack. I tried at bedtime and he just played with it for an hour. I just tried at naptime, after he was really tired and same thing. He just kept kicking his legs up and playing with the material. It went on forever and I gave up.

For those that transitioned, was it a gradual process or how did you do it?

Re: Sleep sack question

  • We transitioned from a swaddle (miracle blanket) to a sleep sack. I bought one that had a strap on the inside that velcroed around his chest. The strap was to keep it in place but I like it because it gave him the feeling of having something tight around him. We never had any problems with him playing with it. I would keep trying it or go without it even.

  • What gets me is he doesn't use anything to sleep at daycare and sleeps great.  :-?

Babies sleep great for everyone but their parents. Little stinkers.
We used a halo swaddle sack and once she rolled from back to belly I put her in a normal sleep sack that night. The sleep sack is the same as the swaddle at the feet so that didn't make any difference. The only issue we had at first was her swinging her arms around but then her dr. suggested to give her a small security blanket (the head with the satin and fleece attached). This did the trick as a distraction. Keep trying and I'm sure he'll get used to it.

  • C plays with his and tries to chew on the fabric almost every night. We never used a magic sleep suit. There are nights where it takes him 30 minutes or so to fall asleep and the whole time he's playing with it. I started giving him his grapes wet and freeze teether (we've never actually frozen it) and now he chews on that at night instead. I remove it once he's asleep. Eventually he gets tired enough to fall asleep. As long as he's just playing it (and probably trying to figure it out), I'd just let him keep playing and see if he eventually falls asleep on his own.
  • We transitioned from the sleepsuit, but it took a couple of tries. The first time she would pick her legs straight up and then get them stuck on the sleepsack. I was trying with naps and not having any luck. One night her sleepsuit was still wet after being washed so I fig'd I would put her in the sleepsack. Amazingly she did great and we haven't gone back. I would just keep trying once a week.

  • Ugh! We are trying again tonight. I wasn't going to but he was up every hour last night starting at midnight. Tonight he started up every hour since putting him down at 7. So I said screw it, lets try it on the next wake up and he went back to sleep in it. We will see how long it lasts.

He has not slept through the night since getting the helmet. During the day and for naps he doesn't miss a beat. But since getting the helmet he needs his paci to sleep. I don't know why, he has never needed it before. :( So I am hoping the sleep sack keeps him cooler and allows him to self soothe better.
