Sleeping with a security blanket (lovey)

My son has gotten used to sleeping with an Aden&Anais security blanket. You know the one with satin binding, it's just a small square, it's not really a blanket, it's thin muslin cloth.  He takes this thing all over the crib with him and I truly believe it helps him to sooth to sleep because I've watched him rub it on his cheek and play with it as he's falling asleep. It never occurred to me until now that this could be a hazard in some way? He's 5 months old, rolling around and scooting all over the crib, often sleeping on his tummy. Do you think it a good idea to let him sleep with it? Does anyone else let their LO sleep with one?

  • I think it's ok those are so thin. Ds started sleeping with his tigger around then

  • Thats what I figured too :)  He seems to absolutely love it and really does cart it all over the crib with him overnight. If it helps him sleep I don't want to take it away!

  • My kiddo sleeps with one too.
  • My DD is 4 months and sleeps with one of the those thin muslin blankets. She scoots all over her crib too and it's never been a problem.;-)
  • Is this particular lovey the only one you let LO sleep with? My pedi said no blankets in the crib until LO is a year, but I have a couple cotton lovey's that he uses when he's awake but I haven't let him sleep with in it his crib.

  • Used them with first(who is now 2.5 and still uses them!). Now using for my 3 month old. They tear easily so need to have lots handy. My 2.5 yr old takes his EVERYWHERE!

Yes, he only sleeps with this little "blanket" which is about 12x12 inches long of breathable muslin cloth.  We have two and I only give it to him at sleep times in his crib or special circumstances like when we have to wake him early to catch a flight or whatever when sleep might be messed up.

  • I let my son sleep with a little blanket and we never had a problem. Hes 6 months and i really do.t thonl he could sleep without it.
  • my daughter is 5 months and also sleeps with the same one, she loves it!!
  • Since everyone seems to have the same one I won't use the ones I have in the crib with my LO. He sleeps great without any now, so no use in giving him one that he might end up needing to have to fall asleep.

  • I let my DD have her wubbanub in the crib and she likes to move it around and put the animal on her face (must be genetic- DH puts blankets on his face in his sleep), so I would think the muslin blanket would be safer than that, lol. We also have those lovies and DD loves them in the car seat.
