June 2013 Moms

This is probably a stupid question....

But I'm going to ask it anyways. A little background, I EBF and had my first period since giving birth on Oct. 15-20th. Before getting pregnant I was like clockwork and my period started every 28 days. I do know that it can change after having a baby. Anyways, if I went off my cycle from before my period should have started on the 12th and it's still not here (not asking if I'm pregnant, I promise). I did have light spotting though for about an hour on the 8th. I have taken 2 pregnancy tests both came back negative. So here are a few questions I have now. Would you count the spotting on the 8th as your period? Is it normal to skip months of periods at a time while EBF without being pregnant? (I was under the assumption that once it came back it was back for good) Lastly would you talk to your doctor about it? Normally I'm one to avoid calling the doctor but I don't remember what to expect since my first baby was born over 7 years ago. TIA and sorry for asking such a dumb question, I just feel like someone else here might have experienced the same thing and can tell me to relax and enjoy my period not being here again lol.

Re: This is probably a stupid question....

  • I had some spotting a few months back but nothing came of it. Perhaps you ovulated later and had some spotring from that? You could also be pregnant and the spotting could be from implantation bleeding. I guess there are a number of possibilities. I personally wouldn't call my doctor unless you are having some other symptoms that are worrisome.

  • Yup, hormones when EBF can cause crazy cycles. I didn't get my cycle back with DS1 until I quit pumping at work when he was 18 months. Then it went back to 30-45 day cycles with no real pattern.

Thank you @ilovemarfa I'm just not use to being so irregular so I guess it's catching me off guard.

  • I would wait a week or two to see if you start. I I had my first period in September but I spotted 2 weeks before that for a week. I was told that when BF that you can have spotting with it. My cycles also went from 23-25 days to 28-29 days.

  • My cycles have been a little longer also. My second cycle was 33 days and my third was 32. They were 28-30 days pre-pregnancy. I'm EBFing and not on BC.

  • Thank you @redcherry1109 and @jo27key I'm not on b/c either. So glad to know that it's normal to have longer cycles. My mind is at ease now, before it was going nuts trying to figure out if it was normal or not.
