need suggestion..

Sigh! This has happened before and my partner is extremely sensitive about this. She always feel hurt when our son refuses to let her comfort him. He often rejects her help and only wants to be with me. Any suggestions? Remember, he's only 3 1/2 years old (this has been going on since he was born). She's 12years my senior - a different parenting style than mine.

Re: need suggestion..

  • My wife and I don't have any children yet, but she has a 4 year old sister that we keep a lot over long weekends since she was about a year old.  She usually favors me even though my wife is her sister.  I am more fem and the "motherly" type and my wife is more butch and likes to play more and not necessarily gives off maternal vibe but the paternal vibe and is a rough houser.  This has hurt my wife's feelings on multiple occasions that she wants to cuddle and comfort her little sister and she usually prefers me.  I just told my wife to try and recognize when there are times her sister would need comforted and offer that comfort instead of her sister having to ask for it.  Also I have made sure my wife does stuff like give her a bath or read her a book at bedtime, the more quiet time activities where they could bond.  Do they spend time together just the two of them?  I hope this improves as your son gets older.  They can hopefully learn to bond in a different way than you bond with your son. :-)
