just read this article (link below) on Huff Post.  Checked to see if it was posted here in the past few days, but didn't find anything and wanted to see how you all feel about the ruling

  • Ummm. I'd like to know the judge bc let's just say I'm familiar with that county. I worked with the judges there before becoming a SAHM......I'm disgusted with this story.

  • Seems like a load of BS to me.... And like a mother who is upset about a judge granting the father more custody. After reading both articles I'm siding with the judge. No one legally can deny the mother her rights to breastfeed, but the same goes for the fathers rights to see his child, even at night. At 10 months old the baby is also eating solid foods, and there is such thing as pumping to keep the child on breast milk while away, and to also ensure the mothers supply doesn't dry up. As parents who are seperated they should want to work towards an agreement so that the child can have healthy relationships with them both. And in my opinion it's great and says a lot that the dad fought for more rights, not a lot of men are there to step up these days sadly.

From another article on the same situation: "Pumping isn't an option. Jessica says she can't pump enough milk for two days, and Jasmine won't take a bottle."

You shouldn't assume that it's so easy to pump a 2 day supply. I have many EBF mom friends who couldn't pump more than an ounce or two at a time, if any at all. Can you imagine how long it would take then?

I must have missed that part, I can definitely understand that then! I still just have the feeling some of it is a little stretched. I don't see a judge telling someone they can't breastfeed, there has to be something else to the story that we don't see. Then again, I've seen judges in the media do weirder things, so who knows!
  • I'm glad you posted this...someone on my Facebook posted the original article recently and it pissed me off but also didn't sound really realistic. I was feeling sad that this was happening in our area.

@Toribaker171- yeah it's not always such an option to pump especially if a baby is EBF. I had a friend who's husband actually had to bring her daughter to work so that she could breast feed her to get through a 12 hour shift....pumping is not always an option

  • I'm so glad it's fake! That would be outrageous!
  • Thanks @MiaMyPuggle for clearing up! Damn Internet lol can't even believe news stories smh and you'd think Huff Post would be reliable

@ac1259 -- I know Judge Baratta and he can absolutely be a dick, but would never order that. He is extremely sarcastic and the mother prob took it way out of context.

@missimone --no prob! Whatever gets the most reaction out of people will be printed! He moved up the hearing to get the media off of his back. He doesn't tolerate attention well from past experience. He's pretty fair, so I was surprised when I read that it was that judge.
