Babies: 6 - 9 Months

baby is extremely sleep deprived and won't fall asleep

edited November 2013 in Babies: 6 - 9 Months
Is it mean to let her CIO for her own good? She only took one 30 min nap.  She woke up cranky and tired so I tried to nurse her to sleep.  45 min pass and she won't sleep.  I don't know what to do anymore this is a daily issue.  I just want what is best for my LO.

Here's a link to some gentle sleep resources if you'd prefer to not cry it out. Hope it helps! Good Luck! https://evolutionaryparenting.com/gentle-sleep-resources/
  • My very easy going laid back babe is a nightmare to get to sleep when overtired.  It usually takes both my husband and I and lots of time and patience to get her down.  When she isn't overtired I plop her down away and she is out within minutes without a peep.

If it's daily like you say then you'll be best to try and adjust her routine to prevent the overtiredness.  What is her current schedule looking like?  How long is she awake between naps?

  • Oh, what usually works for my daughter when overtired is I nurse her, then I lie beside her and pull her in tight and snug.  Hold her arms against her so she can't flail and I loudly 'shhhhhshhhhshhhh' until she calms and passes out.  Your shhhhh'es need to be louder than her fussing.  If she is not held tight and can move then she just flails and keeps herself up.

When that doesn't work its walking and rocking or bouncing.  I trade off with my husband.

  • When is her bedtime? Could you move it earlier if its after 7pm? My son is in bed by 6:30, anything after & he is a wreck
  • Is she only having nap problems or nightime too?
