Waiting for a call back from the Dr.

So, as the title suggests, I've already put a call in to the office--but you ladies are usually helpful in making me not worry SO much!  I haven't been swollen at all this pregnancy but have had high blood pressure that they've been watching (last appt. was 140/92).  As of Wednesday at my appointment I had no protein in my urine.  Obviously they're worried about Pre-e.  I even had blood work done to make sure it wasn't lurking and they're having me repeat the blood work on Wednesday before my next appointment.  Today, my hands swelled up to the point where I took my rings off and I don't think if I shove them back on that I'll be able to get them off.  Not quite sausages, but my rings haven't fit any different at all while pregnant.  I also drank two 20 ounce bottles of Gatorade with lunch and peed once during lunch so it couldn't have been all of that Gatorade--this was about 3 hours ago.  Just curious if anyone else has had something similar happen and what the outcome was?  I'm due 11/26 btw, and had planned on working next week before going out.

  • I've had the exact same problems. Nothing was wrong. Just high BP that was fixed with bed rest. Drink lots of water and don't eat a lot of salty foods. My fingers aren't swollen any more and my rings fit :)

Do follow up with your doc though bc preclampsia is very dangerous if ignored (but you know that).

  • Gaterade is full of electrolytes which is basically salt. Mention it to ur doc but that's prob the reason for the swelling.
  • I literally just called my dr for something similar. My hands are swollen to the point they hurt. Been drinking fluids but I have a few spots on the tops of my hands that are sore to the touch and are very puffy. Seems like I'm full of fluid. Waiting for a call back as well. Feel better...
  • I'm due 11/25, and the last 3 days I have puffed up like the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man - I had my dr appt yesterday (normal BP, no protein).  She took one look at my legs and just said "oh honey, I feel so bad for you."  My hands are so swollen (and with the dry air) that my skin is starting to split like sausages!  No amount of water, putting my feet up, etc seems to be making an ounce of difference.

So, situations a bit different (no high BP) - but just saying that it is very possible that this is just normal.  Hopefully yours is just end-of-pregnancy swelling too!
  • Thanks ladies!  Just wanted to update and say that I'm an idiot who had been sitting in my office all day where the other women are menopausal sooooo they tend to keep it warm.  It was 73-74 in there and it HAD been 20-40 outside but today it was 60.  The nurse even said that could have caused it, and duh on the Gatorade (silly me).  Geez, this baby has eaten my brain!  Better safe than sorry--enjoy your weekends!
