breast pump recommendation

This is late in th game, but i need opinions.  I ebf and only work on saturdays. So i only have a manual pump that i use at work. That is pretty much the only time i pump.  Lo is almost old enough to start solids and i plan on starting his on oatmeal, so i will need to mix it with bm.  do you think it is worth buying an electric pump?  Maybe just a single pump??  I plan on bf atleast until lo is 1year.  I need pump recommendations please and thank you :-)

Re: breast pump recommendation

  • If you're just using it once day a week, then eh I don't know if an electric is worth it.  However, check with your insurance company on their coverage for an electric pump - they may cover it 100%.  If you want an electric, I love my Medela PISA.  I EP, so I get LOTS of use out of it!

  • Through insurance I definitely got a free double electric pump so I would check! If it wasn't free for you I probably wouldn't bother.

  • I'd say if your insurance will cover it - go for it.  I love my Hygeia.  However, if it's just for one day a week, and you've been getting by so far with your manual (and your insurance doesn't cover it) - I'd just stick with your current situation.  If it ain't broke- don't fix it!

However, if you're wanting to start pumping more to get BM for oatmeal (it sounds like this is what you want to do?) - like I said, I love my Hygeia.  It's a closed system and a very environmentally conscious company.  It's really powerful and you can apparently substitute in a lot of Medela parts (flanges etc) which are easier to find in stores, but still not have to worry about replacing membranes etc.

I got the medela advanced personal double breast pump through my insurance. It is similar to the PISA and uses the same parts. I EP and it works well.
