"You must be having a girl because your ass is so big"

Good lord people. I really don't remember these comments from past pregnancies, but maybe I just blocked them out.

Are you getting lots of strangers wanting to come up and talk to you about your pregnancy? I guess its that time.

Last night I did a big vendor event and I was in the bathroom. This woman asked how far along I was, I said 8 months. She was like, "you are so tiny, you look great, you are all belly...you must have weighed 90 lbs before you got pregnant." In my head I was like "THAT'S how you talk to a pregnant woman."

But then the other lady in the bathroom chimed in, "oh no, look at her butt, she's gained it all there, you must be having a girl because look at your butt! If you are having a girl then your butt always gets HUGE."

Thanks lady....

  • Yikes! My mom told me last week that she hoped I didn't take offense to what she was going to say, but my "square footage in the back area has really increased".. Don't women know not to say these things to other women in general?!

  • As if we didn't notice it ourselves?

I had a guy at the store literally poke at my belly button and say "Oh it's an innie, must be a boy!" I was so uncomfortable and had no idea how to respond.  I couldn't waddle away fast enough.

  • Anyway, I feel like most if not all pg women, by their 8th month, have protruding butts...if for no other reason then our posture compensating for the belly.

  • Well, I don't know what happened to me then because my ass is huge and I'm on my second boy. Wonder what her theory would be on that?

  • Haha - that's funny!  I've never heard that before.  Well, it's not funny if you're being told that, but I think that's a funny old wives tale.  My rear definitely didn't grow with DD like it did this time.  These are the times I wish I wasn't team green ;) DD defied most of the old wives tales that said she was a girl tho.  So we'll see!

  • That's so annoying. What the crap. I haven't gotten anything that ridiculous, even though I am getting the "Holy crap, you're getting big!" comment from friends now. I keep saying it - why do people think they can say whatever they want to pregnant women!?

  • I went to a play last weekend and had one person tell me how great I looked then another tell me I looked ready to pop. The lady with the compliment is also pregnant and due 5 days after me. She's about 5ft tall and the tiniest and cutest little pregnant lady. The compliment from her still made me feel like shit!

  • It's one thing if a friend or family member makes a (stupid) comment, but a total stranger?? My gut reaction would be to say, "well, at least there's a reason for my fat ass; what's your excuse?" That's assuming I could get the look of shock off my face fast enough to speak.

So far, all I've got are some comments from our parents and a few friends that I've gotten bigger faster this time around.  I am all belly, so it hasn't bugged me.  Yet.

  • My female chiropractor told me last week I look like I could deliver any day now.  This was hours after an intern at work who I have seen nearly every day since September was surprised to find out I was pregnant.  I know I don't talk a lot about my pregnancy at work but come on, by 7 months along, I would think this is common knowledge around here.

  • Wow...just wow!  It miffs me the most when WOMEN make these offensive comments to another pregnant woman.  I express my angst to these bishes by saying "would you comment on an overweight or obese person's size/shape or weight?"  and then walk away.  I don't care if they "meant" well or were just making conversation.  Keep that shit to yourself!

@bensmommy518 - At my office, a girl here made a few mistakes that while not major, was totally unlike her. So she went to explain the mistake to the right person, and blamed it on pregnancy hormones/pregnancy brain. The whole office knew like 2 days later (and with 50 employees in various groups, that's an accomplishment around here).

  • Ugh! I had the same thing happen. A MONTH ago two different women asked if I was ready to go any day. I almost decked them both. WOMEN!!

Then my male chiropractor heard I was nearly 30 weeks (STM)and he said "you are looking great for 30 weeks!!" Seriously people, I almost kissed him. Not kidding.
  • The other thing is that I'm so stunned when people make rude or dumb comments I can't think fast enough for a witty response!!!
  • The only thing that "grew" was my ass and even three weeks post delivery, my ass is huge :( I've been covering it up with large sweaters. That comment would make me cry on the spot and I wouldn't even have the thought to respond with a decently snippy comment back :((
  • I think we've all discovered that pregnant women bring out the stupid in other people, right?

This pregnancy has sucked all what little bootay I had and cherished. Lol

    :(

But id throat punch the lady saying it in a negative way. I'm sorry :(

  • OOO you must have ran into my step-grandma ;)   That is her rationale on how you determine whether boy or girl. Ridiculous.

I'm sorry that you had a jerk say that to you... I honestly think I would come back with something super snarky if I got a direct comment like that.  I would not stand for it, man!

  • My mom came with me to an ultrasound at 23 weeks because DH couldn't and when the lady was tucking the towel in my pants my mom said, "Wow, look at those huge, purple stretch marks!" Thanks mom. I love you to death but sometimes you are too honest.

  • Wtf?! I don't understand comments and what people say to pregnant women, especially coming from a woman. Common!

  • I seriously don't understand people!! Someone asked me today how far along I was... I told them 31 weeks and their response was... Damn, you are all belly but that is a big belly! You are huge!!! .... Yes, bitch... I am normally a size 4/6... When you stick a 4 pound baby inside your stomach it tends to grow! I felt like slapping her! WTF is wrong with people?? Keep your mouth shut unless you want to tell me I'm beautiful! Lol!
  • Oh I hope this is true because I have a big butt regularly (and I'm having a girl ;)  ) Maybe if I get to have a boy my ass will get smaller?! LOL. Dummy

  • I had someone at work yesterday say "man you are just popping out the babies." I just looked at her blankly bc I have ONE child and he's almost 5. People are just all over the place. I never comment when someone is pregnant other than a generic "you look so cute."

  • We had people over this week, and one of my very good friends said, "I can't believe you have two months to go. How much more pregnant can you look?!" And I said to him, "Okay, I am going to do you a favor: Never say something like that to a pregnant lady!" He really thought he was being sympathetic, but I wanted to smack him.

  • I've gained all my weight in my ass and we are def having a boy. She needs to check her facts lol
  • Yesterday at work (i bartend)one of my customers told me I got much bigger since last week and was I sure it wasn't twins?!
    So I cut him off!!!
Everyone around him were pissing themselves including myself!
I think he learned his lesson!
  • Someone said to me th other day, you are really starting to look pregnant now. How did I look before, just fat?
  • Maybe bathroom commentary woman #2 got really super fat and she wanted to take it out on every pregnant woman she saw after she had her own kids, haha. What an insane thing to say! Also...for her information, big butts bring all the boys to the yard so the joke is on her.

I had a really interesting exchange with a barista this weekend. At first it sounded like she couldn't believe I was due in January because she could barely see my belly with my scarf kind of covering it. I moved the scarf and she launched into the ever-so-cliche "You don't have twins in there do you??" I just left. I couldn't even. So, I got my first twins comment and I'm proud that it didn't even make me cry.
