Moving LO to a toddler bed...

Anyone planning to move their LO to a toddler bed in the next few months (or has already done so)??

  • We just moved my almost 3 year old 2 weeks ago. Hoping Leo will last that long too.

  • Also, we were only having a problem with him climbing out at nap time. Naps have gone really smooth since transitioning him but over nights we get a wake up around 4:30 or 5:30. He already had a twin bed in his room so I wish we would have just transitioned for naps and stayed in the crib for nights. Once we did it though, there was no turning back.

  • Nope. She's not climbing out or trying to escape. Even if I was expecting another baby, I would keep LO in the crib until she shows signs that she won't tear her bedroom to shreds in the MOTN

  • I refuse to give up the baby jail.  She sleeps fine in there, no issues with trying to climb out--there will be no messing with a good thing in this house.

I will not be surprised at all if we skip the toddler bed and move straight from crib to big kid bed.  But I'm keeping my options open.

  • I'm due with my 2nd daughter Dec 9... we expect the newborn to sleep in our room for about 5 months (which is what Sophia did,) and at that point we may try to transition Sophia into the toddler bed when she's around 20 months.

People think even that sounds early, and I definitely wouldn't move her out of the crib that soon if I wasn't so incredibly cheap that I don't want to buy a second crib (even a cheapie model.)
  • Thanks Ladies. Only due to the 2nd one on the way would be why I'm asking. We maybe just buy a crib as she is energetic and I'm worried about her having a go at destroying the room each night.

  • My boys are 20 months apart. So when ds1 was about 15-16 months old we moved him to a twin mattress on the floor. He took to it well and slept fine. We had a few instances of wandering around his room or falling asleep on his rug but we'd just move him to his bed after he fell asleep. He was too little to reach the door knobs so he couldn't "escape" his room and everything was secured to the walls furniture-wise so it was pretty toddler proof. We didn't keep toys in his bedroom just a couple of books and some stuffed animals to sleep with.
Ds2 (my sept baby) I'm not sure when we'll transition him since they share a room and are in cahoots I'm scared to move him out of baby jail

  • We just took the front panel off the crib for our almost 3yo.  Keep them in the crib as long as possible!!!

  • Hellz no!!!  I'm with Toni. We'll be moving them either when they can climb out or when they go away to college, whichever comes first.
