Babies: 6 - 9 Months

6 month old baby feeding schedule

So I am having a hard time with the feeding schedule. My daughter eats every 3-3.5 hours and has 6 oz. I am wanting to get her on a schedule with solid foods as well. I have searched and searched for sample schedules. No luck. Anyways I was just wondering what would be a good feeding schedule and also if I feed her formula before or after baby food and how much formula and how much baby food and how many times do I feed her baby food a day. I am just lost and I am a first time mom. I just want to make sure she gets what she needs. Thank You

Re: 6 month old baby feeding schedule

  • BM or formula should be fed before solids to ensure they are getting the majority of their nutrients from that. If she is only 6 months, then it's going to take a a while to figure out what she likes. You also only introduce new foods every 3 days to make sure there are no reactions so you won't be feeding her 3 square meals a day for the first bit. So far DS has had oatmeal and apples and does not like either of them.

I think this is something you need to be discussing with your dr because there is just SO much info  out there and we all hear different things.

  • My son is 6 months as well. Currently throughout an average day he eats 35-40oz of formula and 3 containers of baby food + oatmeal. However, he eats more than the average baby and definitely more than the average 6 month old. As far as baby food goes, he likes just about everything and has tried almost everything. We are now introducing spices to his food and he LOVES it. We started purees at 4 months, starting with the basic stage one flavors.

  • At 7.5 months here is our schedule:

    6am-ish wake up, diaper change
6:30ish puree (we're on 2-3 cubes for each meal right now but were at only 1 per meal at 6mos)
7:30ish bottle - I make 6oz, sometimes she finishes it and sometimes she only eats half

    10:30ish bottle - 6-8oz

    12:30ish puree
1:30ish bottle (again offer 6 oz)

    4:30ish bottle - 6-8oz

    6pm-ish puree
7pm-ish bottle (usually offer 8 oz this time) and bedtime

  • I exclusively breastfeed, and basically nurse him about every 3-4 hours, give or take.  He's 6.5m, and usually gets 3 "meals" a day or baby food.  Usually his serving size is equal to 1 cube of frozen puree plus about equal amount of oatmeal mixed together.  As another posted said, BM/formula is the primary food and nutrition source, and the baby food is mostly about practice and exposure at this point.  Generally we feed him his lunch and dinner puree at the same time we eat dinner.
