April 2013 Moms

What are you happy you did?

On the flip side of yesterday's post, what are you happy you did?

I've said this before but I am so, so glad I had a birth photographer. I was a bit hesitant at first but one of my best friends specializes in birth photography and she convinced me to do it. Those pictures mean more to me than many wedding pictures.
I'm also glad we stayed with my mom for a couple days after leaving the hospital. There was supposed to be severe weather the day after we came home so we went there to be close to my parents' shelter. My mom and dad were awesome. They made us meals and drove me to appointments. It was a lot less scary being a first time mom with help.
I'm also glad I stocked up on essentials to last all my maternity leave. Not having to go to the store for anything was nice.
Last I'm glad I bought a nice camera before she was born.

Re: What are you happy you did?

  • Interesting because my regret is also my thing I'm glad I did --

I'm glad I weaned LO and myself off of nursing in time to go back to work / start daycare.  We both got the most important benefits of breastfeeding, and then when I felt like "ugh, something has to give" it was a huge burden off of me to not be the sole "feeder" in the family, and not to have to pump at work, prep bottles for daycare, etc.

I enjoyed my time breastfeeding and I'm glad I did it, but I also am very pleased with the timing of stopping.  I honestly can't imagine pumping at work and prepping bottles for daycare on top of everything else right now.

  • I'm so glad I let hubby take some of my maternity benefits. He is so much more confident with LO and I feel like they have a special bond now

  • I am glad I quit my job. I know SAH isn't for everyone, but I am certain our family would be miserable if I worked right now. My work is probably happy I left, too. I am sure I would have made them all miserable as well.

  • I am happy I made it 6 months breastfeeding. NEVER thought I'd get that far. I'm happy because LO got benefits of BM longer, but also b/c we saved a boat load of money not having to buy formula :)

I am also really happy with our daycare selection. Thankful every day when I drop her off that I have NO doubts about leaving her :)

That was my strategy too and it definitely worked. Daycare has been really good for Ava.
  • I'm glad I took so many pictures since I can barely remember the first 6 months. I'm glad I hired help and that our nanny is still around. I'm glad I worked so hard at BFing because it's so easy now.

  • I am so glad I got a doula. She was so supportive and helpful and she took some wonderful photos right after DS was born. I am also glad my parents came up to help, and that I gladly accepted help from everyone who offered. Most of all, I am glad that my DH's work let him telecommute 3 days a week for 6 months! It made such a difference having him close at hand, even if he was working. I feel like he and DS really got to bond.

We are the same person! DH and I may or may not have sent in pizzas one day for the entire staff. MUAHAHAHAHAHA. Paid off dividends :)

  • I'm glad that I took a longer maternity leave, Brayden was really starting to come into his personality in the end.  I'm also glad I chose the hospital I did, they took really good care of me.  I'm glad I didn't give up on breastfeeding because it was really hard for me in the beginning.

  • I'm glad we named our daughter Alice. It was really hard deciding on a girl's name. We decided after she was already born. I'm also glad we bedshared the first 4 months and that I have been able to breast feed again. Oh and I'm glad I got pregnant when I did with her- #2. It's hard but wonderful all in one.

  • I'm so glad I VBAC'ed. While I had a good c/s experience with DD1, my VBAC was a totally wonderful experience and I am thankful I had the opportunity. I'm also glad I powered through the early BFing struggles and am still going strong. I am also happy that we put the kibosh on early visitors when we were home from the hospital. Bonding as a little family of four was so wonderful and as sleep-deprived as we were, we'll never get those days back. So thankful it worked out like it did.

  • I'm so glad that I have managed to breastfeed 100% for almost seven months! I am so proud of myself! I was blessed to have an easy time of it. Of course it was painful in the beginning, but  we never had any issues with latch or anything like that. Once I went back to work , though, it was hard with the pumping. It still is. But it's so worth it to me!

I am so glad that I got the epidural. Once I got it, giving birth was the best, happiest, most exciting, most joy-filled experience of my life. I would do it again in a heartbeat. Friends are surprised when they ask me how childbirth was and I say I loved it! I wouldn't have loved it without the epidural. (Because believe me, I was in labor for 5 hours before I could get it and I was NOT loving it... I'm a wimp!)

I am so happy that my husband go to take two weeks off from work at the very beginning, and that we spent a lot of time just the three of us. It really helped to cement our little family. I love how close DH is with our son. He comes home from work and runs right over to grab him and play with them. I was worried about them bonding, but they are so sweet together!

Okay I am just overwhelmed with happy thoughts about my baby now!

  • So happy that we got overnight help in the beginning- it made the newborn stage so much more enjoyable and I'm really thankful for that. I'm also happy we did sleep training at four months and its been going well, and that I've been able to EBF for this long- I only made it two months nursing with Ava and then pumped until six months.

  • I'm glad we put DS in his crib in his room from day 1. First couple weeks were rough, but we never had to deal with a tough transition and has (for the most part) been a rock star sleeper.

  • I am glad we did everything this time that I wanted to change after ds1 was born: no drugs and less hospital visitors. I am glad I kept bf-ing for a long time with ds1 even though it was so hard at first because I knew what to do with ds2 and how to advocate for myself with ds2.

I am just glad that I followed the lactation consults advice about having to switch to formula. I breastfed for 2 weeks and Alexander dropped to under 6 lbs. He was 7 lbs at birth. It took several, daily visits with the consultants but I came to terms that the type of formula he needed would be okay. Because of a previous surgery and calorie consumption, I barely had enough nutrition to support my own needs let another my little ones. My milk supply dried up in two weeks and once he started gaining weight and thriving, I know I did the right thing. Eta:grammar
  • Props to those still bfing! I'm proud of myself for not gaining much weight during pregnancy. I'm glad I took lots of pics of him and made a gushy scrapbook. I'm sure when he's.....35 he will appreciate it. I'm so glad we bought a recliner right before I had him! I had a csection and attempting to lie down in a bed was excruciating for a month.

  • I am glad that I switched to cloth diapers. They are adorable, and the rashes went away and rarely return. I'm also glad I stuck it out with BFing despite mastitis, using a shield, and returning to work. Almost to 8 months now!

  • I'm SO glad I stuck with breast feeding. We had a rough beginning, but I love it now and it is so. much. easier. than warming/making/washing bottles while chasing my nephew around. Compounding to that idea, I'm really glad I joined my local BWI chapter and got into baby wearing. It just makes every day so much easier. I can cook, vacuum, change the 2 yr old, do the laundry... the possibilities are endless. Baby? What baby? Oh yeah, the one wrapped on my back! ;) And last but not least, I'm glad I found and decided to follow attachment parenting. Even though I'm constantly being told that I'm spoiling my baby everyone eventually says, "Wow, he's such a happy/content baby!" It makes all my hard work worth it!

  • So many to choose from! I'm happy I finally got to be Team Green this time. I'm grateful that Team Green turned into Team Blue (I've always wanted a son.). I'm happy he didn't come early. I'm happy that my MW's never pushed to induce. I'm happy that he picked his own birthday, and that the timing was perfect! Most of all, I am happy that my husband, who was not thrilled about the idea of a third while I was pregnant, has done a complete 180 and loves our little man just as much as he loves his girls.

  • I'm glad that I am taking monthly pictures. (Even though I would do it differently) we have them and I'm great-full.
I'm glad it was just DH and hospital staff. DH even had to turn a friend away while I was pushing!
I'm glad that I have a healthy wonderful baby! No matter what happened that was the goal.

  • Going off of what a lot of you ladies have said -- I'm also proud of myself for sticking with BFing. Even through the beginning when we were having latch issues and using a shield, and being overwhelmed from being the sole source of his food, to when I was in the hospital for a week prior to having my gallbladder removed. I pumped around the clock while I was there to keep my supply going, when I could have just given up. I'm so glad to have kept with it because it is very easy for us now. I'm also glad that I made a scrapbook with photos and ultrasounds from my pregnancy and Gavin's first days in the hospital. It's something that I treasure and am grateful to have and I'm sure I will love looking back on it in the years to come. I also can't wait to show it to him someday.

Even though it's also on my "wish I had" list, I'm glad I stuck with BF'ing until 7 months.  Even though I was fighting my own body a lot of the times, I'm happy that I was able to give LO that benefit.  I'm happy that I took an early maternity leave, because she decided to come join us 2 weeks early.  I'm also happy and thankful that NJ has paid baby bonding for the father also, and DH got to take 3 weeks of paid family leave when I went back to work, it made the transition so much easier, and gave him time to bond with her.  Okay one more, I'm thankful/happy that my employer let me work half days for a few weeks when I returned, so that I could work up to full time at my own pace.
