Efficient or just lazy?

My LO is 3 weeks old today and he used to nurse for about 25-40 minutes per session and it's slowly whittled down to about 8-10 minutes, 15 tops. He still wets/poops/naps the same, so is he just getting more efficient? He is pulling off and passing out. When I try waking him during the session with a boob, he's totes uninterested.

Could we really be getting the hang of this or is he just lazy (i.e., should I try to keep him awake)?

My LO is 4 wks, doing the same thing. I can hear him sucking, though, so I am pretty sure he's just getting better at this whole nursing thing.

Yup, they get more efficient. That's party of why out gets easier. A long as you hear the baby swallowing you should be good. And obv make sure baby is still growing etc.

Your LO is most likely getting more efficient. The pedi told us that as they get more efficient, they will take less time to nurse while slowly increasing the amount they eat as they get older.

Oh yeah, he is definitely swallowing. And he gained about 10 oz last week, so evidently something's working! Good to know, thanks, ladies!

My almost 3 week old has never ate more than 20 min tops. Now it's more like 15 min...and after a weighted feeding I know he's getting 3 oz so he's just really efficient.
