For those that wear shoes in the house...

So, I'm trying to envision this. If you wear shoes in your own house what do you do with them when you go to bed? Do you take them off right in your bedroom? Where do you keep your shoes? Bedroom closet or front door? What about when you shower? Do you leave them in the bathroom and then slip them back on when you're done showering? This is all so intriguing to me!!

  • I'm curious about this too! I can't stand to wear shoes in the house but I also can't stand to be barefoot. I have socks on 24/7. I could never stand to wear shoes all day!

  • I leave my shoes in my bedroom closet. I like shoes on almost all the time. When it's nice out its flip flops, and when it's chilly out running shoes, uggs or slippers if I'm just hanging out at home. I don't necessarily put them on right after I shower, just when my feet get chilly. This feels weird to explain. :-S

  • I have a lot of shoes. Some are in the entry closet and some are in my room. Shoes i wear less often are kept in my room, and daily wear shoes are in the closet by the door. Often, when I work out, my shoes get taken off in the bathroom then moved to the closet after my shower. If it is snowy or wet, I have a mat by the front door for shoes.

  • I'm confused; where do people normally keep their shoes if they take them off right when getting home? Do you leave them outside?
I wore shoes in the house until we moved in this apartment, and it's...not that complicated. You can wear them or take them off whenever you want; usually there's a designated place for shoes where they should be put away (for us, it was the bedroom closet), but there will always be people who just leave them about (in front of the couch, under the table,etc.).
I'm actually really surprised so many people on this board expect shoes to be off inside; here in CA, the only people I knew who strictly enforced that rule are Asian-American. What on earth is getting on your shoes that can't be wiped off on a welcome mat?

  • @ClandestineX you guys are mystical people...haha. :)

@bibliophileemily our shoes are at the front door in our porch on a mat tray thing. Except for fancy heels I keep in my bedroom closet and take down to the front door when we are about to leave.

I can't imagine getting out of bed in the morning or getting out of the shower and putting on shoes, even if it is just flip flops. In the winter I sometimes put on slippers just to keep my feet warm. Literally the only time shoes are on in my house is if I forget something and I'm already out the door. And that's only in the summer. In the winter they come off even if I'll just be quick.

  • We have shoes all over the blasted house.  They come off where ever, my daughter kicks hers off in the dining room normally in the middle of the floor.  My husband usually takes them off either in the kitchen (if they are muddy after doing chores) or right by the couch in the living room.  My shoes are normally in the bedroom by the bed or in the closet, my chore shoes are at the back door.    We do wear them in the house but only if we are getting ready to go.   In most cases we are either barefoot or have socks on.
In a perfect world our shoes would get put in the closet when we aren't wearing them but in reality you could find a pair of shoes almost anywhere.

  • I'm confused. Haha We wear shoes in the house, but not because we're afraid of carpet or something! lol We come in the house, get settled, kick them off, and they eventually get put away in the closet. I don't normally sit around relaxing with shoes on, but its not weird to be wearing them around the house if we're doing something that day.

We have a big shoe rack in our bedroom closet and the kids have bins in their rooms for shoes.

  • I only wear them in the house if I know I need to be on the go -- otherwise, I wear slippers or slipper socks.  Real shoes get taken off by the door that goes from garage to house; slippers in bedroom.

  • I'm usually in shoes around the house, typically flip flops, because my feet tend to get cold on our laminate flooring. We've started making it a habit to take off our shoes when we first come in the house so we don't drag outside dirt around. We're getting ready for when LO starts to crawl! I want to keep the floors as clean as possible. I've been meaning to get a pair of shoes that's just for inside the house for this reason.

I was raised being required to wear shoes around the house, or risk getting yelled at. Between being told by my grandmother that I'm going to catch a cold with bare feet, to having flat feet and being told my feet are only going to get worse if I walk around barefoot, I was forced to wear shoes all the time.

THis is why slipper socks are the BEST!

  • The only time in really wear my shoes in the house is when I'm busy: cleaning, running in and out of the house, etc. I have horribly high arches and if I'm on my feet this much without shoes I tend to not be able to walk by the end of the night or the next day. Once my running about the house is done, the shoes come off and go back to the entry way closet.... Or somewhere around the entry way.
