Babies: 0 - 3 Months

no nighttime dirty diapers

My lo is almost 10 weeks and she has pretty much been sleeping through the night for a couple weeks now. The last 2 nights I noticed that she did not wet her diaper until the morning. She wakes at 4-5am to nurse for a few minutes and then officially wakes at 7. She didn't pee until 7.
Is this normal for STTN? She is still gaining weight steadily.

Re: no nighttime dirty diapers

  • I would be concerned if it keeps up.

  • My baby does that.. he is about 8 wks.  If your LO gets enough wet diapers during the day, then I wouldn't be too concerned.
  • I would call the pediatrician... That's a long time to go without wetting.

Agreed. There's not one time my LO has gone all night without a wet diaper.

  • I can't just call her pediatrician. I'd have to make an appointment and her car seat is not functioning properly.

Hm.......Do you have a nurse line that you can possibly call? I am sorry to hear about your car seat, but you might want to get that fixed as soon as possible so if there is something that is wrong that requires an office visit you will be prepared to take her.

You should be able to just call and ask a question.  If not then I would look into another pediatrician.  That is what they are there for, to answer questions and everything doesn't warrant an office visit.  Also, I would look into finding a cpst for the car seat, you need to have a properly used car seat in case of an emergency.

That said my kids were all very young when they stopped peeing at night.  It was just normal for them not to have wet diapers at night but when they finally went in the morning the diaper was absolutely saturated.  They really just held it all night long.  I asked our ped about it with our oldest but she was having enough wet diapers over a 24 hour period, gaining weight, thriving and not showing any signs of dehydration.  My kids all stopped wearing diapers at night and naps by 12 months.

  • I've been trying to get her a new pediatrician for a month now and it has been the biggest PITA. She has medi-cal but no one in my area will take her. The only person who will, sucks. It's a miserable situation. I called the car seat manufacturer in the hopes that it will be fixed soon. It is just the straps that won't tighten properly unless I completely rethread the harness every time. I have the worst luck! Haha
I feel like she is probably fine, then. She has a lot of wet diapers during the day and she is a really happy baby who is already trying to crawl. She is a little inch worm.

  • There are nurse lines that you can call.  I'd at least do that right away.

  • I'm sorry but this is not something anyone can give you guidance on over the phone.  To do so would be negligent.  They need to evaluate her in person if there's concern and with newborns they will rarely dismiss a concern without an office visit because so much can go wrong, so fast (not saying this is a huge deal - just saying that they will, and SHOULD, take concerns seriously when they're this little).

As for your car seat - I think I saw your post saying one side won't tighten.  Have you taken them off the splitter to see if the straps are the same length?  Though not common, there are cases where it's a manufacturing defect.  If you can't get the seat to function properly you need to buy a new one and then deal with issue with Graco.

  • This happened to us also. Our pediatrician told us that, as long as the baby has wet diapers during the day, there's nothing to worry.
  • You should have 4-6 wet diapers throughout the day.

  • She had 15 dirty/wet diapers the last 24 hours. That is normal for her and she wet her diaper last night. I think it may have just been her sleeping so well.
I was able to fix the straps for now but I can't adjust them while she is in it or else it will happen again. But I have it so I can at least drive to go buy a new one because I don't feel comfortable with this.

  • This happened to me one night. I was freaked out because DD normally pooped and peed during the night and one night she just didn't poop or pee until maybe 5 or so in the morning. Since then she does pee at night but she never poops after she goes down for the night until we wake up in the morning at around 7-8. Although, she does do the biggest, dirtiest poops in the morning because of it.
