XP best carrier for nursing a newborn

I'm expecting LO2 in May at which point DD will be 18months old. I'd really like to have a carrier for babywearing that will allow me to nurse the newborn. With DD I used a BabyBjorn miracle from newborn to 8 months old, then switched to an Action Baby Toddler carrier. I loved the Bjorn Miracle and will be using it again with LO2 but I also want to get something that I can nurse in for the first 3months, mainly to wear around the house. Has anyone successfully nursed a newborn while babywearing? What carrier do you use? Wrap, ring sling? What specific make/model do you recommend? I'd rather keep it under $100 but could splurge if need be. TIA

  • I like nursing in a ring sling, and a lot of mamas love wraps. Is there a babywearing group near you, where you can go try on a bunch of carriers and see what works best for you?

I already looked into the babywearing groups, there really isn't one that I can get to easily. I don't really know anything about ring slings, any specific one you liked?

  • Congratulations! My boys are 19 months apart, so I've been where you are.

I've never met a carrier that I can't nurse in with some practice. As long as your carrier allows you to raise or lower baby to appropriate nursing height for your body and access your breast, nursing in an upright tummy-to-tummy position is a possibility. Here is me nursing in a wrap. DS2 started nursing this way the day he was born. That said, since you have some money to play with, you might enjoy getting a more ergonomic carrier than the Bjorn since you'll be using it for many months. For soft-structured carriers, I like the Beco Gemini because it can fit a newborn and older baby ergonomically without an insert and can do back carries. In my area, used ones come up on CL for under $100.

  • I nursed in a Beco Gemini from the time DS1 was 2 weeks old until he was 8-10 months.

  • Thanks for the ideas, I'll look into those, I'm leaning towards a ring sling maybe, because I don't think it makes sense to buy a third SSC
