Haven't tried Peanut Butter Yet!

I feel so guilty, we haven't tried peanut butter yet!  It just seems that since her birthday she's been sick with a cough or a cold.  I've been waiting till she's 100% healthy, just incase she does have a reaction.  DH is so upset I'm depriving her of peanut butter (his favorite food) and he's pushing.

Tell me I'm not a bad mom! Are there issues associated with waiting too long?  We haven't tried shellfish either yet!

  • I haven't tried Peanut butter yet either.  The opportunity has not come up yet.  I don't think that makes you a bad mom, tell your husband to back off.  I would also wait until she is feeling better to.  There will be lots of time for her to have peanut butter.

  • A cold or flu wouldn't matter but wait until you are ready.

  • We havent tried yet either, today is the last day of her antibiotic from her ear infection. She had a rash from the first antibiotic we tried and I dont want to confuse any reactions that may happen. I will probably give it to her next week.

  • I prefer almond butter myself, so she usually gets that instead. Don't give it to her till you're ready. Do you have allergies in your family?

  • You are not a bad mom! My hubby is allergic to this so we've waited

  • My pedi actually recommended to wait on all nuts until 2... I was surprised.
  • Why do you feel guilty?  I don't think it's a big deal.  We have no food allergies and I eat PB like crazy (I go through a jar every other week)!  My LO was so curious that I asked the pedi at my 9month appointment and he said OK.  So I gave it to him after and now he loves eating it with me - straight out of the jar or on his banana.  But I only tried it because I eat so much and he was always staring at me eating it!!  Otherwise, introduce it at your own time!!

  • We haven't given A actual peanut butter but we have let him taste a Reese cup. He did fine, no allergies there.
