Feeding baby meats and cheese

My baby is 7.5 months old, and I am curious, how old were your LOs when you decided to feed them meat and cheese?

My pedi said no meat til 10 months, but that seems like a long time!

TIA

Re: Feeding baby meats and cheese

  • Baby is 6.5 months & we're giving him meat today. We were told right away is fine

  • My pedi said any time after 6 months.. And we have been.

I have a Daughter born 2/26/2013. She is pretty much amazing!

  • My daughter is 8months and has been eating all sorts of meats for a good 6 weeks or so.

She has a milk protein intolerance so she can't have cheese.  If she could, then we would be giving it to her already if it were in a recipe (lasagna etc) and sometime soon on it's own.  I think I would have held off a bit to just give cheese cubes as they are not the easiest to chew.

With DS1 we started both around 8 months.

DS2 just had meat this week at 7.5 months. We're holding off on cheese only because we think he is still MPI, otherwise I would give it to him.

ETA: our pedi is fine with anything but honey (and choking hazards, obviously) at 6 months.
  • Started all food (except honey) at 6 months. Meat was one of the first things he was gnawing on.

  • our little guy has been eating meat since his 6 month well baby.  He prefers pork and chicken over beef, in fact he will clamp his mouth shut for any type of beef but you can not give him enough chicken.   Most certainly his mommas boy :)

  • How are you serving these meats and cheeses?  Pureed or in small pieces on the tray?  And if in small pieces, how small are you making them?
  • We are doing BLW, so no purées. My DD with no teeth at 8 months can demolish a one ounce strip of chicken breast :). They figure out what to do with it ;)
