How long before a positive test?

My husband and I have been trying 3 months. My cycles are always 28 or 29 days for the last 6 years, whether on BC or not. Today is day 32. I took a test the day my period was supposed to start (Nov 8th) and it was negative. Anyone out there have a positive not show up until later?

  • Your cycle is regular until it's not.  You may have ovulated later than "normal," but can't know unless you were temping/charting.  Take a test every week until either AF starts, you get a BFP, or you get to 60 days, at which point call your dr. to get meds to jump start AF.

You probably ovulated later than normal. It happens, despite how perfect your cycles may have been in the past. Now, it's conceivable you caught the egg and it's too early to turn a test. Heck, you could have ovulated yesterday! But for now, you are not pregnant. Keep testing until you get a positive or your period.

ETA - this response is based on the assumption that you aren't temping/charting. If that's the case you can't tell when or if you ovulated.

  • according to my temping - October 24th or 25th.
  • hi i am in same place did you ever get a positive test?

  • i work at a family planning clinic and our rule of thumb is that it takes about 14 days after any intercourse for a positive test to show up so it is possible that you can get a false negative and then have a positive result. obviously some of this can vary from individual to individual. hope this helps! :-)
