How much to spend on gift for 5 yo

DD got invited to her first "friend" party. All the kids in her class are invited to a one-and-a-half hour party at a bowling alley. The little boy is turning 5. How much should I spend on the gift? I don't want to be the jerk who shows up and under gifts, nor do I want to be the one who gives way too much.

I was thinking like $15???

We spend Between $10-15. I just bought my sons classmate (turning 8) a paper airplane kit for $10 and I think he is gonna love it! His mom on the other hand prob won't ; )

You can get a great board game for like $15 so I think your in good shape. If the boy is a cars/trucks kind of kid, don't forget to check marshalls or tjmaxx for great toys that are inexpensive.

I usually aimed for around $15 for preschool parties, when kids usually invite the whole class and you have to attend a zillion parties each year. Maybe $20. I usually bought board games or craft kits for preschool classmates.

I usually do around $15 - $20 for something like that. I also don't do elaborate wrapping. I get a simple card and then buy a reusable shopping bag that is kid-themed (Toys R Us has them). I put the gift in there with no tissue paper or anything. That stuff gets wasted anyway, and kids usually don't care.
