Bottle holding?

How do I get my son to hold his bottle?? He is 7 1/2 months and won't do it. I put his hands up on the bottle and he pulls them away. He just has no interest in it. Any suggestions??

Re: Bottle holding?

  • Rhys holds his bottle but he doesn't know how to tip it up, so no milk comes out. Not sure there's a way to make them do it aside from practice.

  • Mine could care less too :( .
  • Yeah, James isn't doing this either.  He seems like he wants to hold it, but can't quite figure it out.

  • Haha some babies never will. They know it's something mom is supposed to do and will refuse to do it. They like the time to relax and not work. Others, (like my son) are ravenous and want to try to drink their bottle faster than it will come out. DS will hold it himself and actually try to shove the whole thing in his mouth upon first starting his bottle. :) Although it can be nice that they hold their own, don't stress if he's not. It means absolutely nothing. Maybe offering him a sippy cup at meal times will encourage him to also hold his own bottle?

  • DS just started doing it on his own a few weeks ago. I think I read something about this not being helpful for BFing for some reason though. Who knows. It is cute to watch him hold his bottle in the morning though!

Brayden's lazy, he holds his bottle with his little bicep. He can hold it but has absolutely no interest.

  • Our girls won't tilt it up if they're sitting up but laying down they'll hold it.

This probably sounds really bad but, we always held the bottle out in front of them to make them reach for it and they gradually learned that they were only going to get anything out of it if they held it themselves.
