Would you put Nova in the same catagory as Nevah?

So I posted the other day in the name board a poll asking opinions on Nova vs. Piper. I've been searching forums, books, and websites endlessly and have come across nothing I like more then Nova. I think I'm set with Nova Juliet. However, I still just can't get myself to pull the trigger. I know I love it, but I'm still just a little concerned if she is gonna have a too out there name. I'm terrified people are gonna look at her name and think of it as a crazy made up name or a stripper name, or as I've been told a million times lately..a name found on Teen Mom 3. Am I being too cautious? All polls have been about 50/50 love it vs. hate it...I would really love some opinions from you ladies if I'm just over thinking and it really is a great name, or if I should keep looking.

  • I have a friend who named her son Nova. I thought it was a beautiful/unique name...

I wouldn't put it in the same category as Nevaeh, because it's not a completely made-up word turned into a name with a cutesy explanation.

That said, I don't particularly like it. My honest opinion, no offense, is that it is kind of stripperish, or at the very least hippy-ish. But, if you like it, go for it.
Eta: I think the stripper connotation for me comes from nova=star, and Star is a stripper/hippy name. I guess it's just the weird way my mind makes connections.

  • NO WAY! Nova is pretty! Not even close to same category. Some of those teen moms picked perfectly nice names! No stigma attached. Go for it.

  • I like Nova enough, I thought, 'hmmmmmm, I'll see if H likes that one!'

I have a strong distaste for the name nevaeh
  • Exactly what others said. Nevaeh is dumb because the only reason why it took off was because of the "heaven spelled backwards"... Nova is not even in that same category!!! Nova is very pretty - I don't think you would get side-eyed for it at all.  Only thing I think of to relate it to is the car --- but I'm guessing our kids generation won't have any clue that car existed lol

NOTHING is worse than Nevaeh, so if that's your bar, you have SO cleared it. ;-)

Seriously though, it's NMS but I don't hate it, either. It WOULD make me think of huge exploding stars, but that's not really a bad thing. If you adore it, go ahead!
It makes me think of exploding stars too. Also of PBS science specials. But those aren't the worst associations someone could have with a name, and it's definitely better than Nevah!

Eta: I have no idea about teen mom cause I've never watched it.

  • All I think of is Teen Mom. I don't think the name is bad, but Novas mom on TM is incredibly annoying, and HER mom is a weirdo so that's where my mind goes.

Honestly, anything is better than Nevaeh. Anything.

  • The only people who need to love it is you & your hubby. That's all that matters. I don't think it's to out there and I actually really like it. I think it's different, which is a good thing to me, but not to out there to be considered weird or dumb

  • Its wayyyy better than Naveah. I swear on everything every meth mom I was forced to speak to named their daughter Naveah.

The above...but also, I wouldn't get stuck on the Teen Mom thing.  No one is going to even remember Teen Mom and the kiddos names in 5 years from that show.  Your child will still have the name in 5 years.  If you like it, go for it.

  • I would assume you were a fan of the game Starcraft.

  • I like Nova.  It's sciency and unique.  No stripper is smart enough to call herself Nova.  Nova is a kind of star explosion.  Some are huge - supernovas!  I think it's a great name and I wouldn't be weirded out by it at all.  What worries me are little girls with names like Kynnadee and Jourdyn.  They might be strippers one day!  Two kids with that name just started Kindergarten this year at our school!  Eek!

  • Nova makes me think go teen mom and also I work in the event industry and there is a line of linen called Nova, that's what I think of when I hear it but think it can be cute for a girl. Not even in the same ballpark as nevaeh- that name is awful.

I like it. I also liked Nevaeh 3 yrs ago the first time I heard it... then I realized its cutie pie backwards spelling and gagged. I don't associate it with nevaeh or strippers in think your all clear.

  • I really like nova

I like nova a lot. But I like words as names. My DS is zephyr which means a westerly breeze and I was concerned about the uniqueness of this name as well (it was originally picked as a middle name but right before birth we had to swap the first and middle name- long story) but because we spelt it correctly and it's a legitimate name (unlike apple) I think if ppl side eye me that's cos they're uneducated! Same with nova. Use it, love it and ignore any negative feedback, if u get any (which u probably won't if u wait til baby is born to announce it). Go for it! The world has too many Emmas and Mias (no offence to ppl who are using those names- they are nice- but there is lots).
  • I'm another on team stripper.

I can just imagine the MC calling out "Get those singles ready for Noooooovvvvvvvaaaaa!"

I don't think it's awful (there are tons of worse names), but it's NMS
