Question about HCG levels.....

I had a natural miscarriage on 11/6/13.
At my ER visit, my hcg was 4,000 on 11/2/13.
I got blood work done for hcg on 11/4/13 which was 1,212.
My last hcg level on 11/8/12 was 1,1995. Which only dropped 23.

They are concerned why my levels aren't dropping quicker so I have to get blood tested again tomorrow and another appt. Monday. Anybody have anything similar happen? I'm just so tired of still going through all this! How long does it take for hcg levels to level out? I just want my body back to normal so I can move forward.

Re: Question about HCG levels.....

  • Sorry for your loss. I don't have experience with them not dropping, but i do know how long mine took to go down. I had a d&e so it may be different, but my levels before surgery were 7500. My levels two weeks later are now 10. They usually wouldn't have even drawn the second one, but I had abnormal pathology results from the procedure. Did they check to see if all the tissue was passed?

  • I would ask at your next appointment what the doctor is checking for. It might put your mind more at ease. Sorry your going through this , wish I could offer better information to you.

  • How far along were you? My Dr said it could a take a while (possibly, like months) for the levels to reach 0-5 depending on how far in your pregnancy you were. (although from your levels, it didnt look like you were that far along). At 9 weeks mine were 180,000ish. I had a D&C and since they took everything out, she said I would not need additional blood work. Good luck to you!!

  • I had an ERPC (I'm in uk and it's similar to a D&E I think). I had it done on 31st October. I went to the doctors in Tuesday because I was passing clots when I had a wee. She phoned the hospital for advice (I have a blood condition ) and they suggested I did a pregnancy test. (Which was horrific having not only been 2 weeks since my surgery. It was still positive so the hospital wanted to see me. They did blood tests and they showed a high level of pregnancy hormone in my blood. (This was 12 days after op.) I wasn't told what number it was - we don't generally get told here - but it was obviously high enough to cause them concern. They did an internal scan and found I had retained products and needed another ERPC. I had it done yesterday. That's just my experience, and it's not to say that's why your levels haven't dropped a lot. How far were you? I was 11+3 but the baby had died around 4 weeks prior.
Maybe they will scan you to see if you have anything left? X
