Merlin's magic sleepsuit?

Experience with this?

DD has actually not been swaddled since about 2.5 months (she always busted out and so we used the Woombie for a while until she started hating it) and she is 4.5 months now. But, she sleeps badly at night and I think it's because her flailing limbs wake her up. Is this worth a try? Can baby roll to her side and breastfeed in it?

Re: Merlin's magic sleepsuit?

  • Unfortunately I don't have an answer for you but I am having the same issue with DD! She either rolls over and wakes herself up or she startles herself awake and then it takes forever to get her to go back down. I've been thinking about the Merlin but my little girl is a little hot box and sleeps in a t-shirt and diaper and I think if I put that on her it would make things worse not better. Also, a friend of mine pointed out that she will need to sleep on her own free of any sleep aids and it's better to start trying to do that now. Sorry I couldn't be more help, but just wanted you to know that you are not the only one experiencing nighttime sleep issues! :)

  • I bf my LO while he's in the suit.. It's been great so far!
  • My baby is 6 months and has been using the Merlin since right before he turned 3 months old. (He moved up to the bigger size about 2 weeks ago - he's 19 1/2 lbs and 27 inches.)

I would have probably tried harder to get him to sleep better before buying it but in our case he would only sleep in the swing since he was a couple of weeks old and I wanted to transition him to the crib. I felt like he needed something to help transition him and sleep sacks didn't work. ( He had already started rolling back to belly so I didn't want to swaddle him.)

The Merlin works great for us. He normally sleeps for a 6-7 hour stretch, wakes up to eat, and goes back down for another 2-3 hours. It is not a total miracle though. We still had to go through the horrible 4 month sleep regression and now the 6 month growth spurt.

Even though he's been rolling since he started wearing the suit he has never rolled in the suit. He doesn't roll on his sides in it either. If they start rolling while wearing it you're supposed to stop using it just like the swaddle.

I nurse him to sleep and then move him to the crib so I breastfeed while he wears the suit. It was a little awkward at first since it's bulky but I got used to it quickly. I used to dress him in just a onesie underneath but now that it's getting cold here he wears a cotton footless sleeper underneath.

He loves his Merlin and I'm going to be sad when he out grows it!

F! Are you serious? My DD will pull up her legs and roll onto her side in it. It totally makes sense, since I don't think she could push her head up if she rolled all the way over in it. But she loves it and I love how well she sleeps in it. :::cries:::

OP, we FF so I can't answer that, but it does help! DD is just under 4 months and she sleeps for 4-5 hours, wakes up to eat, repeat. We used it to transition her from the swing to the crib and I think it really helped!

  • DS2 has been sleeping in it since 21 weeks. I tried transitioning out of the swaddle without using the sleep suit and it was a nightmare. He definitely needed some transition like the suit and the first night he used it he went back to STTN like he had done before he started fighting the swaddle. He doesn't roll in it and I can breastfeed him fine. It was worth it for us! I know I will have to transition him out of the sleep suit at some point but I'm hoping he'll be big enough then that the reflex will be gone and it won't be too bad.

  • My LO was sleeping great in his for a while (only issue is he gets so flustered trying to suck his thumb in it!!!) But I agree the thing is worth the money. He did 6 hour stretches his first two nights transitioned into the crib (normally he wouldn't do more than 30 mins and has been in an rnp since he was 2 mos old). I haven't tried using it in a bit as he has been sick so I have been staying up and keeping him inclined in the rnp but I will def be using it to transition him again and will be buying the next size up! Good luck :)

  • Our experience with the sleep suit wasn't great. LO never slept in it more than 3-4 hours and constantly tried to turn on his side (which he couldn't do and got frustrated). Magic sleep suit didn't bring any magic into our life so one day we just decided to use sleep sacks instead as it doesn't make any difference in LO's sleep anyway. Waste of money here.

  • Well, LO wakes up every 1-3 hours so even if I get a consistent 3+ hours at a time out of this I will be happy!!

  • I LOVE the sleep suit.  It really was a miracle for us.  I put her down in the crib while she's still awake, she falls asleep on her own (NO CRYING or FUSSING) around 8:30, and only wakes up once around 4am to eat, and then wakes up in the boring between 7-8am.  I think everyone should try it out.  Best way to transition to the crib and to keep them well rested and happy.
  • My little sleeps in a Velcro swaddle sac. But I'd love to transition out of it! Her arms just seem to keep her awake. I've been napping her out and that goes fine. But not bed time?! Help!!!
  • Well, we tried this. I think it is helping a little but not a lot.. she is able to breastfeed in it although I need to help her roll onto her to side to do it.
