Poop overload! Should I call the doctor?

Alright ladies I have yet another poop question. Yay! Will has been having diarrhea/loose poops since last Friday. There was a stomach bug going around at his daycare last week and at first I attributed it to that. However, that was 7-8 days ago. It doesn't smell acidic like diarrhea and his behavior has been awesome. He is FF. He also will randomly have clay textured poops mixed in once every other day or so, usually in the morning but by night they are back to water. He is having 4-6 loose diapers and most of them are blowouts. I should also add that he is having plenty of wet diapers so he's not dehydrated. Should I be calling his doctor or just let it run it's course?

Re: Poop overload! Should I call the doctor?

  • I'd probably call -- usually a nurse will call me back and ask a few clarifying questions to determine if we need to come in or not.

  • Another vote for the doctor! I would want to make sure he isn't getting dehydrated.
  • Unfortunately, I'm not sure it's diarrhea because it doesn't quite smell like it or have the separation that diarrhea can have. But it's the consistency of jarred baby food .... Which is totally not normal for him. Normal is anywhere from thick but soft to hard clay consistency. Hmmm... I guess I best be calling a peds nurse.

  • Well, the nurse told me that if his behavior changes, if he spikes a fever, or has more than 8 loose stools a day to bring him in. Otherwise I should wait up to two weeks. Looks like I will have a lot of laundry in my near future :/
