Getting rid of pacifier

DD is 9.5 months old, and I'm thinking of taking her pacifier away. We have to replace it for her multiple times each night. I think she may sleep better without it. I'm bracing myself for a few rough nights and naps. So if you have ditched the pacifier, how did it go for you? How did you do it?

    Maybe it will be easier than you think....we wanted to ween DD from her paci before vacation so one day I just didn't offer it to her to see what happened, and she never even missed it...I know we probably got lucky, but maybe you will too.

    We lost it early on, but had good luck switching to a Wubba Nub stuffed animal that has the soothie attched to it. The Wubba Nub became a lovey and DS took to snuggling it (he wasn't good at finding the paci end to put in his mouth). He's on to other loveys now that are bigger, but I do think giving him a lovey helped him transition.

    DD is almost 11 months and is really good at finding them (I put like 4-6 so she can find them easily) at night and putting them in her mouth, but she used to be like your DD. I literally have nothing else in the crib besides pacis and it helps her self sooth so I probably won't be getting rid of it for a few months.
