Pregnant after IF

Sleeping in the third trimester

Sorry to post again today! Just wondering how others are getting some sleep during the third trimester. I had a terrible night's sleep last night and was dragging at work today. Between the hip pain and back pain I couldn't get comfortable. I have a snoogle but am not sure that I love it - i feel like I get tangled in it and wake up to turn over. I was wondering if a smaller pillow that is just for between my knees and under my belly may be better. Anyone have one? Other tips on getting comfy? Or do I just get used to not sleeping well from here on out...

Re: Sleeping in the third trimester

  • I am in the same boat as you (already). The hip and back pain are killing me! I used a snoogle for a while, but like you I felt like it was waking me up when I turned over. I felt like I was fighting with it some nights getting so tangled up!

I've switched to having a pillow between my knees, one to support my belly, and a small one along my back to prop me up in case I try to roll onto my back in my sleep. This system has been working better for me than the snoogle.

I hope you get some better sleep soon!

  • Add another one with hip pain - thankfully it is just on my right side for now.   But I use a body pillow between my knees and under my belly.   I use 3 pillows to prop up my head and an extra pillow by my feet - since I am trying to elevate them a bit b/c I also get leg cramps.  So right now I am getting by with 5 pillows.  But the body pillow makes it easy to roll onto my other side at night.

  • I am having a  very hard time sleeping. I fall asleep easy however wake up two hours later. I have to pee a lot and I try to sleep in my side and my belly get hurt and my little baby kicks me a lot. She likes it better when I lay on my back. It has been hard. I also have to take care of a two year old, so it has been harder than the first pregnancy.

I think it is preparing us for the sleepless night ahead.

    Best of luck

  • Ugh. I hate going to sleep at night because I know it's going to be a horrible night. I wake every 1 1/5 -2 hours due to hip pain and then have to go to the bathroom since I am awake. I have a leachco back and belly pillow and have 2 pillows in addition under my head for breathing purposes, and another pillow between my legs/ankles. It's horrible.

  • If you can, try a massage. I had a prenatal massage done last week and I slept much better. She showed me how to place pillows for a more comfortable sleep. It really helped to have someone show me good placement and body form :)

  • I'm not in third tri yet, but by size, I might as well be! I sleep mostly on my left side. I have 2-4 pillows to prop up my upper body (depending on heartburn), one behind my back, a rolled towel to support my belly and 2 pillows between my knees. Sleep is hit or miss for me. Poor DH, if I keep adding pillows, he's going to run out of room!

This! I had a body pillow and it just wasn't working so have switched to a multitude of smaller pillows and it seems to help some and eventually some of the pain subsides and I can get comfy enough to fall asleep!

Hang in there! We're all getting so close to the finish line :)
