Restrictions on lifting (post c-section)

I cannot for the life of me find my discharge paperwork that talks about it, and I haven't heard back yet from my OB so I thought I'd ask.

For c-section moms, how long was it before you were allowed to lift LO while they're in their car seat? I'm home alone until six or seven at night every night, and I'd really like to get some stuff done during the day.

  • I moved her for short distances in the car seat at 2 weeks. My doctor said no lifting for 6 weeks, but I had stuff to do... And it was not really necessary. I felt fine.

  • I was carrying DS in his car seat shortly after. Just keep it to a minimum. If it feels okay you should be fine, just don't do anything that feels strenuous.

Thanks, ladies. All I need to do is get him in and out of the car and into a cart. I need groceries!

  • I was lifting DS and his seat and all the other crap I needed day 3 out of the hospital. If we fallowed all their discharge rules, we would never get anything done. Just take it easy.
Exactly this. Now my 28 lb pound 3 year old? not so much.

  • I waited the full 4-6 weeks. I did a few lifts here and there but never more than once a day or more than 2-3 times a week.
  • I was told only baby for 2 weeks, and then I can do baby in carseat till my 6 week pp check.

  • I listened to my body. I was carrying her in her seat the day after we Jeff the hospital. The 40 lb of salt hit the water softener... Nope! Left those to DH.

  • I'm only a week and a half and I'm still only lifting little buddy. I make my hubby do everything else. I finally was flexible enough to shave me legs today. So that was my accomplishment for the day. Couldn't handle any more of no shave November.
  • My doctor told me I could lift my dd in her carseat until my 10 day follow up.

  • When LO was 1.5 weeks old my DH went back to work. My DS is in 1st grade and I have to pick him up from school, so I have been lifting DD in her car seat since then.

  • The nurse that discharged me said nothing heaver than baby for 6 weeks.  She also gave me a list of other restricted activities, including no stairs...  ummm, my bedroom is on the 2nd floor, she told me to sleep on the couch.
The doctor then came in and told me to listen to my body, if it hurts don't do it.  The only thing he said I could not do was drive for two weeks, just in case I had an unexpected reaction to the surgery.  I listened to the doctor, slept in my bed and was lifting my LO in the carrier after 2 weeks when I starting driving.

  • My OB said I could lift up to 20 lbs which is more than our little one plus the car seat when I was discharged at 4 days PP
