Wah. I wish we were financially able to this time around. With my first pregnancy we had an amazing midwife and planned on doing a home water birth, this time were giving birth at a birthing center with midwives, still a water birth just not at home
I would love to do that... but right now in a temporary apartment with shitty insurance that likely won't cover something like that. This would be my dream birth, tho. Hoping for a birth center with similar comforts, at least.
Nope, but my favorite birth scenario involves everything happening so fast that I give birth at home in the tub, with the ambulance on the way . Last time there was an induction and 2.5 hours of pushing, ugh! The above is a pipe dream, because there is no way my husband will let me go long enough at home to potentially give birth here, but I can hope/not tell him until it's way too late.
ETA: I just told DH of my plan, he's not on board with it, at all. Ha ha ha!
Not a home birth, but we are planning an out-of-hospital birth at a free-standing birthing center staffed by midwives. The birth center doesn't allow water births although they do have nice Jacuzzi tubs for laboring in. Nice to meet some other out-of-hospital birth June mommas

I have the same secret fantasy.
(Although I know if it actually happened it would be scary.)
My midwife does home birth and she owns her own birth center. My other three kids were born at the birth center and I am not sure about this baby yet. I like giving birth there. It's such a beautiful place! Being at home would have its advantages tho! I've done water birth with all my kids and plan to with this one!
It's nice to see other mamas choosing out of hospital options! We have a great free standing midwifery center here in Denver but we also have some amazing home birth midwives. Our midwife comes to our home for all of our prenatal appointments as well, which is just an added perk! Are you ladies planning on finding out the gender? This is our first little one and we are going the suprise route!
This except the water birth part, our birth center allows water birth. I would love a home birth but DH isn't comfortable with it so the birth center is a good compromise. It funny though the midwife has all the same equipment regardless of where the birth is so safety wise there is no difference.
This is me too! Birth center with hospital privileges.
I'm between two options. Right now I see a group of midwives (w/ associated doctor), and they deliver at a regular hospital (but it does have birthing tubs), and a birth center attached to a different hospital. I'd prefer the birth center, but if you want an epi you transfer over to the hospital portion and I'm not thrilled with that particular hospital. I'll probably wimp out and choose the regular hospital with the birth tubs
With DS I thought about doing a home birth but the birthing center is 10min away and on a lake. So I picked the center and found it helpful. Laboring in a jacuzzi tub while looking over the lake helped me find some focus. We'll be doing the same with this one.
@joules325 I'm not sure. My appointment with them is this next wednesday.
Although I am now feeling unsure about this idea. We told our parents today. After tears of joy, I casually mentioned to my mom "I really want a natural birth the old-fashioned way". She said," don't you even think of giving birth at home. Don't do it. Not for you or your first baby."
