Babies: 6 - 9 Months

The sitting up in the crib phase.....

Just curious how long did this phase last for you? and if you did anything or just plow through?

I'm reading some say you should go in and lay them back down, some say let them figure it out...if you go in to lay them down it'll become a game...what to do?

Oh how I miss the days where I'd just put her down and she'd go to sleep...:( there will come a day where sleep is predictable right? hopefully before she goes to college...

  • I think once they've mastered a skill they get stuck in it. I've read it takes about 10 days to get passed it

  • It didn't take DD long to figure out how to lay herself back down from the sitting position. Personally I think the standing up in the crib is more annoying. We would have to go in and lay DD back down 7-8 times a night for a few days. She had some good bumps on her head before she learned to drop down on her bottom. Hang in there, it gets better!

I know... I've heard that the standing up phase is worse..I'm mentally preparing for it ;)
  • For us the sitting and standing sleep distribution phase didn't last long because we let him figure it out. He did this without crying and now he is back to normal with his sleeping patterns. Good luck!

you're lucky that he didn't cry while he was figuring it out. From what I've read and what we're experiencing is that they get frustrated and cry when
can't sit or lay back down.
  • I'd let her figure it out.

  • Let her figure it out. We got lucky that b just plops himself back down from standing/lays down and never got stuck. But once I put him down once, I don't go back in. Sometimes he lay there, then sits up and works on his standing, lays back down, repeat for up to 20 minutes before he finally goes to sleep.
  • The sitting phase was worse for us than the standing phase, I think it lasted maybe two weeks?
