There's a statement on the Earth's Best website that they will be investigating.

  • I'm really grossed out because a week or so ago, I tried to give C one of those, and she took a few sips and wouldn't take anymore when normally she has the whole thing. So I ate some to see if she'd eat it.

    Gross.

I'm sure I'm over thinking it and it wasn't in our pouches. but still ew.

  • Someone posted this on my FB and said she has always been a little skeeved out on pouches because you couldn't see inside. It goes from the pouch into your babies mouth without you seeing it. I never thought about it that way.

one of the comments from the poster of the video said that poison control told her it'd be ok b/c maggots are protein! LOL NO THANK YOU!

  • This reminds me of the Capri Sun mold scandal.  I'm a little leery of things I can't see inside.

  • I saw this yesterday and wanted to hurl. So disgusting. I guess it's a good idea to squirt some of any pouch out before letting LO eat it.

  • We buy the EB pouches for Liam but I guess I'm the only one who thankfully never grasped the concept and always squeezed it in a bowl first. DH threw out the few we had left.
  • Mother fucker.

  • Eh, Earth's Best just posted this response on their FB page. I don't understand why the mom wouldn't hand over the contaminated packaging unless it's a scam. If she made this whole thing up, that's even more disgusting than the original posts.

  • Hey guys.... Maggots can't survive without oxygen. It could not have been sealed.

There was something else like this... Like a box of brownie mix. If it's in your cabinet and not sealed, it's fair game for whatever can get in there.

  • Didn't mean to sound motherly or condescending. Oops! Just sayin that I will continue to pouch it up!

  • It makes sense that the pouch was contaminated during shipping or whatever. I will still give pouches, but b/c of this incident I'm going to be more aware of possible damaged packaging.

DD just has pouches once & a while & it's easy for me to squeeze a little out before she eats it, which is what I will be doing from now on.

I usually send a pouch to DC for DS, though, where I can't check it first. So, I'm kinda stuck there. Maybe it's time to wean him off of them, lol. He LOVES his pouches, though!

It would be nice if the packaging was half see-through, like some of the FB comments state on the most recent EB response.

I once found a tarantula in my bananas.  It hasn't stopped me from buying bananas.

This is my only contribution to this thread.
But if you bit into the banana not knowing the tarantula was inside, & you ate part of it, I bet you'd at least have an aversion to bananas for a while. If I ate a food with bugs in it, I know I'd be creeped the fuck out for a while.

  • One time I ate an entire Caesar salad at a dimly lit bar. The other women with sandwiches and side Caesars discovered their salads were COVERED in dead fruit flies. They wouldn't give me a refund because I ate it all. I was like, HA! It's not like I ordered a steak rare, ate it all, then complained how it was cooked. If anyone should have gotten a refund, it's the fly eater. C'mon! Anyway, I shrugged it off and drank a lot of whiskey.

Btw, there are a lot of things we eat without seeing them. Do I need to list them all? Changing the pouch material to transparent or incorporating a transparent window will probably change the material completely (and it's shelf life). Probably not impossible, but maybe costly. Aren't they an aluminum material?

If the pouch had larvae, it likely would have oozed if she applied pressure before opening. Just put some pressure, and make sure the seal is not broken, and you should be good, yes?

Better maggots than listeria or salmonella :-p

Ok now I'm grasping at straws.

    But medical maggots are amazing.

I have no idea if the see through pouch is feasible, but it would be nice! Thanks for the info on what to look for with a bad pouch, though, bc like you, I will still be pouchin it up.
