Toenail Question

On one of LO's toenails are growing into her toe. Like the top of her toe is over half of her entire nail. It's swolen like theres a blister from it digging in her skin and I'm not sure how to take care of it. Shes not acting like it hurts her but I know how that sort of thing can feel. Ill probably call the doctor tomorrow. I just feel so bad. It looks like it hurts! Anyone suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!!

Re: Toenail Question

  • Same thing happened here. I put Vaseline on it and a bandaid every other day. It looks like the top corner is dying (the nail) like an ingrown? He doesn't act like it hurts him either.

  • I think you need to dig it out or take her to the dr to do it. My 5 year old gets them all the time and they don't bother her until it's time to "fix" them. My DH uses a toe picking tool to scrap the skin back and then cuts the nail.
  • LO's big toes were like this, i accidentally got the skin in the clippers, but it was just dead callus.  now that it's gone, the issue seems to be resolving.

Don't you worry about causing an infection by doing this?

  • My 9 week old has the same thing on both big toes. Her pedi said to leave them, the nail will eventually grow over the skin. It's a lot better than it was when she was born

We have professional podiatrist tools and we sterilize them so have never had a problem.
