Hitting head on crib

Of course our crib is on the lowest level, which is very low.  Plus, our baby is very short.  This does not stop her from trying to climb out.  We sort of do cry-it-out for naps, and this works because she usually cries only a short time.  But now she tries to climb out of her crib and hits her head on the bars when she falls (she does not successfully get out--she cannot even often successfully stand because she is too short to reach the horizontal top bar and the slats are too wide to easily grab).  When she falls it causes worse crying than "going to sleep crying" but if I go in and pick her up, then this prolongs the time to nap substantially, and I think might result in even more head injuries.  What can I do?

  • I have no idea other than possibly use a Pack 'n Play for a while instead? The sides are mesh so she wouldn't hurt herself!
