Abnormal ultrasound.

Hi everyone, this is my fist time posting something on here. I'm 22 years old and my baby is due April 2nd. I just had my 20 week ultrasound today and found out I was having a baby girl (delighted) however, the dr pulled me aside and told me the scan of the head looked abnormal and the two sides of the head didn't match up the way they were supposed to, or something like that. My mind kind of went blank when they said something was wrong. They did say everything including the skull looked normal and my blood screening test came back negative. Anyways Im going to see a specialist about it. I have been crying all day and I don't have anyone to talk to about it. Does anyone have any experience with abnormal looking ultrasounds and then have things turn out fine? I'm so scared. ~

Breath honey breath! I do know how the initial shock and worrying feels. I had an increased risk for downs marker on my last screening. After talking to the doc both DH and I felt terrible, scared and alone. I remember being so confused and how my head was spinning with all the information! I couldn't stop crying! We are still waiting for our DNA blood screening results at the end of this week. I can tell you that after the initial shock of everything you will begin to process all the information they give you. The doctors are always going to err on the side of caution to make sure they are covering everything possible to make sure you have a healthy LO. Maybe they just couldn't get a good look at the head because of the position LO was in...
Just try to remain as calm as possible. DH and I felt much better after talking to the specialist and getting all the information about all possible outcomes. I am sorry you are having to go through all this! I am hoping and praying for the best possible outcome. Try to remain as positive as possible no matter how hard it may seem right now. I am sure after a double check everything will turn out fine.

I know how scary this is and I'm sorry y'all are having to deal with the uncertainty at the moment. With DD, we had two rare-ish in utero complications (velamentous cord insertion and membrane separation). She and I had to be heavily monitored and I had to deliver via c/s to make sure the exposed vessels on her umbilical cord didn't rupture.

It was very, very stressful, but the best thing you can do right now is not to borrow trouble...wait and see what the specialist says because it sounds as if this is just a "double check." If there is something abnormal, don't be afraid to ask the specialist and your care provider as many questions as you need, and do your research (although stick to legit sources and step away from too much Dr Google) so that you can make the best care decisions for you and your baby. Sometimes the tough parts of parenting begin before they are even born. Hang in there!

So sorry for the scary results, hopefully everything will be ok. I don't have any experience with your situation but my daugher had 3 chloride plexus cysts found and also dilated kidneys. All these cleared up on there own but I had to have ultrasound every 4-6 weeks just to keep an eye on things. Both of my findings were common when found alone but needed to keep an eye on them. She is a perfectly health 4 year old now.

The only abnormality in our scan was a choroid plexus cyst in our baby's brain and that is scary enough. I hope the specialist can give you some reassurance and some answers.

With my 2nd they told me he'd have ds because of some markers on scan. Ended up all was fine. Don't stress too much!

I received abnormal results yesterday for kidney and uretes. These women here on A14 are very conforting and I agree stay away from Google. I pray that your second screen comes back clear and you and baby are healthy as can be!!
