LO's starting to be afraid?

So DD has started a new phase it seems...she is starting to be afraid of things. I didn't notice it until Sunday night, we were all watching America's Funniest Home Video's and they started showing clips with mascots....DD started crying like she slammed her finger in a door or something! Just totally freaked out and whenever I would try to hug her and turn her away from the TV she would struggle with me to try and see the TV still.
This has now turned into freaking out while watching Sesame Street today when some of the monster ones came on and put a butterfly net over one of the peoples heads. I mean she always used to be afraid when the mail man came up to the house but she is over that now. Maybe time to tell my mom to limit TV time more during the day.
Has anyone else noticed their LO's starting this phase? My sister wants to take all the kids to see Santa this year, I think that might turn into an interesting afternoon now!

Re: LO's starting to be afraid?

  • She's had bouts of absolute terror, once when a toy octopus fell into her bathtub, tickle me elmo, and any of those animatronic stuffed holiday animals. She screams and backs away in absolute terror

  • My child is the opposite. He isn't afraid of anything or anyone. Maybe he is the spawn of Chuck Norris?

  • Our lo does have toys that he's afraid of too. Usually because they are too loud (he really doesn't like loud things at all), perhaps there is a certain characteristic that is causing your lo to be afraid? Perhaps the mascots acting unpredictably? I'm just guessing.

  • My son is rarely afraid of anything. If he is then usually showing him how it works or that it's friendly makes a difference (i.e. petting the goat or showing him what the blender is doing).

He was terrified of my friend's German Shepard but constantly wanted to look at him.
  • Charlie does the same thing when the big blue fish comes on Bubble Guppies. She loves that show but is terrified of that fish. She'll run away and cry like she is hurt really bad.

  • DD is afraid of my big workout ball. Also our neighbors motorcycle.
