Update #2:
Madeline is going in for surgery at noon time, I just got discharged and am heading to the hospital to be with her... will update again soon... here's a picture...
Hey ladies, sorry to clog up the board with another post, but I'm in the hospital and mobile and can't hit the edit button.
Short Version: My water broke at 5pm on 11/11/13. Madeline was born at 9:10pm on 11/12/13 (our due date), weighing 7lb5oz. She has a full head of curly dark hair and beautiful blue eyes.
Long Version: Monday, 11/11/12 around 5pm, my water broke. I notified the on call at the hospital and waited at home for contractions to start. My SO was so nervous.and anxious that he tried to get me to go to the hospital asap. He gave himself an anxiety attack and I sent him to bed because he was so worked up and wouldn't be able to help if he tried. I was only having 2 contractions an hour at 4am (11 hours after my water broke) so the OB suggested I head to the hospital to be monitored.
We got to the hospital around 5am and it was confirmed my water had broken. I was checked and was barely a fingertip dilated and still thick. At 9am, I had only had 4-6 contractions in 4 hours and was 3cm and 50% effaced. We started pitocin then, because it had been 16hrs with no active labor. By 12pm I was in active labor, contracting every 2-3 minutes and was 5-6cm at 80% effaced. I got a dose of IV pain meds that lasted all of an hour and then stopped working. By 6pm I was 7-8 cm and had just a little lip of my cervix left and was contracting every 1.5minutes. Things started gettin intense and I found sitting up was most comfortable for me. At 8pm I was fully dilated and felt pressure and the urge to push. I couldn't sit or lay down with the pressure, so I labored a few more minutes standing up before I NEEDED to push and got on the bed. I pushed for about an hour, able to canal between contractions. Her head crowned and I gave two more back to back pushes while yelling "get the fuck out!" (I'd been in labor for 28hours at this point and was exhausted).
At 9:10pm on 11/12/13, Madeline was born weighing 7lb5oz. I got a first degree laceration but didn't tear. My SO didn't get to cut the cord because it was wrapped around her neck and she was blue. She was suctioned and put on oxygen for 15 minutes before being brought to us. I immediately undid my johnny and did skin to skin with her. She rooted around and found a breast and started feeding. We just stared at each other and I was amazed by the dark ocean blue/green color of her eyes and how long and curly her dark hair was. She started choking and had to be suctioned again. This happened a few more times before she was brought to the nursery for assessment.
After a few hours and having had x-rays done, it was found that she has a complete Esophageal Atresia. This means that error esophagus never fully developed and wasn't attached to her stomach. She can't swallow with aspirating and having to be suctioned again. She was transferred to a new hospital, 2 hours away, to be in the NICU for further evaluation and to be with the infant surgical team. She will be having surgery soon to correct the problem and we're not sure how long her stay in the NICU will be.
I am exhausted and scared but thankful we found the problem and that she is in good hands. I am being discharged early so that we can go be with her. I had this perfect image in my mind of bringing her home in 2 days. Now we're nite sure when she'll be home. Thankfully SO has 4 weeks off so he can stay with me/us.
He was amazing during labor by the way. Rubbing my back, telling me to breathe through my contractions, giving me water/ice when I needed it and rubbing my face/neck with a cold cloth. I wouldn't have been able to get through any of this without him.
I'll keep you ladies updated! Right now I need to get some sleep!
