January 2014 Moms

So, what's the opposite of nesting?

Denial?  Because that's what I'm doing.  I totally volunteered for a work function in a meeting this morning.  Which is NBD except for the fact that said function takes place at the end of January.  My coworkers had to remind me that I wouldn't be able to do it because of the baby.  This is just one example.  This shit happens to me all day long.

Please tell me I'm not the only one. Or maybe I am?  In which case I'll probably forget in a few minutes anyway...

Re: So, what's the opposite of nesting?

  • LOL, I'm so glad I'm not the only one!  Every time I see a post about nesting, setting up the nursery, packing hospital bags, picking out names, choosing a pediatrician, etc., I think - "oh crap, I should really get on that"...but then I don't.  I'm totally banking on this kid coming late and some last minute nesting/panic kicking my butt into gear.  If it's early, we're totally screwed!!!

  • I am not in nesting mode at all. I've resigned myself to the fate that my baby shipment in all likelihood will arrive after DS...All my babies things are in that. I do have the basics though, so he will survive, just in pink and bows...

  • I volunteered for a huge work event the day before my due date; my coworkers had to remind me that I would probably be gone at that point. I didn't even think about it. Whoops.

I think once I have my next ultrasound at 32 weeks, I might actually tell myself that I should get ish done...maybe...

  • Me too.
January seems so far away. I have the pack and play up because we had company over with a LO a few weeks ago. I just brought the newbie clothes over from my moms house. She lives 5 minutes away and I go there at least twice a week.

A lady at the store asked me how far along I am and I just stared at her trying to figure out what she was asking about. Oh that's right, I'm pregnant.

    I'm with ya.

I keep tentatively planning on doing things in mid-to-late January just to have DH go, "Um, you're having a baby, remember?" and then I'm like, "Oh, yeah.."

Plus, the nursery that I swore would be done by 30 weeks? Pfft. It's painted, there's a crib set up in there, and the glider is in place. No curtains, no pictures/shelves up, no dresser picked out, and I'm slacking hardcore on getting the rest of it done.

I have intentions of getting things checked off my list (well, if I actually had a list, lol), but it never happens. I'm hoping that after my shower this weekend, I'll get motivated to get things done. But I know that we'll probably just unload everything from the truck into the nursery and shut the door.

I did actually research pediatrician's last night. But going by my insurance network, there are only apparently 2 pediatric practices out of my hospital that are covered. Seems like there should be more. But if it's really only 2, then there's not much more I need to figure out.

That's our "nursery" also. DD has been sleeping in it now for 1.5 years. Although, we have a dresser and no glider. It was supposed to be done before she was born.

  • Yes! January-March is totally my busy time at work, and it is incredibly hard to not being scheduling events, tasks, budget, etc. for then. Especially since that means I really need to get my sh!t together in the next 6 weeks to have that work.

  • My doctor gave me the hospital pre-admissions form at my Appt yesterday, and talked to me about what labour signs to look out for before going to he hospital... Because apparently January is soon? It freaked me out because I am SO not ready. There is a half-empty paint can sitting on the sub-flooring of our nursery. There is a dis-assembled glider laid out in the basement that is half-sanded so that we can eventually paint it. Everything else is in boxes.

  • I really just don't want to do a damn thing these days. Even though the list in my head does make me feel a little stressed. I know it is wrong & unfair of me, but I am really banking on DH doing most of it. When he gets started then I'll get clothes washed & sorted. I really need some days off from to get me motivated. The upcoming Holidays should help hopefully!

  • DD just got her "big girl" bed on Sunday so technically the crib is in the nursery...in pieces. Also all DD's infant 'equipment' (car seat, bouncer, pnp) is piled in there from when we moved in a few moths ago. At some point I need to decide on a paint color/theme and get to work on it but i agree with PP January is still forever away, right??

  • I was actually considering starting a post on unfinished nurseries...by posting a picture of mine that currently has a coatrack, a 60" tv, toys all over the floor, and misc. boxes piled around. No curtains, not a thing hanging on the walls. But then I thought I would be one of the few and didn't want to feel more behind.

Around 16 weeks, I told DH and my mom that I wanted most baby things organized and ready by 24 weeks so it's less to worry about in case this LO comes early again. I'm almost 30 and we have nothing prepped.

So we keep that door closed so we don't have to see it and basically we just pretend it's not there or that it is indeed ready to be inhabited. I would love for the nesting bug to hit me and kick me into gear. But that doesn't seem to be happening anytime soon.

    aaayyyyy... Don't remind me!

We did get the crib assembled last weekend, but we are fostering a puppy and  her crate is in our nursery!  So for now, there is a crib with a crap-ton of gifts everywhere!

We did go crazy at hobby lobby the other day and bought a bunch of stuff for the walls, etc...  Again, all in bags thrown in the nursery.

I need to get things done before all the company comes in town for turkey day... I've been getting so many "can't wait to see the nursery" texts!

This is definitely DH.  Two nights ago he proclaimed that this winter he wanted to finally learn how to ski, and have a family ski weekend.  I reminded him that the only actual skier in the family (me) would be giving birth to a child in the next few weeks, so maybe we could hold off new weekend hobbies until we get our shit under control with the newborn.

    He literally looked dumbfounded.

  • We have serious second child syndrome going on over here. I haven't done a damn thing mainly because I know we already have everything...somewhere...buried in the basement. And DS1 is still sleeping in the nursery. Oh well. I figure since I was SOOOO on top of things with DS1 and he didn't come until my due date, since I'm in denial about this baby maybe he will come a week early. Wouldn't that be nice?

  • Yeah, I keep saying I'm gong to work on nursery and house stuff, but then I get home and I'm exhausted. I think the week of Thanksgiving that will change though since I'm going on leave. Being home 24x7 will drive me nuts if I'm not working on something, so I have a ton of crafts set up to finish before LO gets here.

  • I bought a coming home outfit yesterday.  When we emptied out our storage unit we had rented for reno's we moved the crib into the babies room.  The crib is full of random stuffed animals, bumpers, the carseat (which we didn't want to put downstairs after pulling it out of the storage unit) and other various things.  That's about as far as I have gone.  I'll have to get the bottles out of the shed soon or they will be snowed in there.

  • Arrg.  So lazy, so NOT nesting.  I haven't accidentally scheduled myself for January, though, so that's something.
  • I have so much I want to do, but I haven't done much of anything. We set up the crib and the dresser (still need a mattress). I washed all the baby clothes we've bought so far, but I still need to figure out what I want hung/how I want things put away. I have big ideas for crafts and decorating, but between money and time, I don't have the means. I'm also really worried that somethings going to go wrong and I'm going to have this constant reminder. I'm a little better now that the furniture is up, but it's still looming in my head. Once December hits I'll be working less and hopefully things will have calmed down around here so I'll be able to focus and get stuff done!

  • I want to get stuff done, but I am just too EXHAUSTED. between these pregnancy symptoms and working full time, I'm lucky to keep up with the housework/ chores!
  • Does the opposite of nesting look a little something like this? I luckily had a surprise baby shower at work the week before I had Sam! Since I basically live at the NICU, nothing has happened to the nursery since this stuff was carried upstairs!!
