Pregnant after IF

From not enough to too much. Ugh!

So I had my regular OB checkup today and a few months ago I had been told my weight gain was a little on the low side (like 9 lbs at 20ish weeks and normal weight prepregnancy) today I was told to tone it down so I don't gain 50! I gained 5 lb in the past month (which I did not think was bad-1 lb a week is normal right?) and 23 total so far at 30 w today. The last time I was in the OB I saw said my weight was on track. So confused! I guess maybe different OBs have different ideas on weight gain?

I guess I will just tone down the Halloween candy leftovers (or better yet get rid of it!) and cut back on sweets and juice. Any other thoughts from people who were told to stop gaining so much weight? I think I generally eat pretty healthy though had been indulging a little when I thought I wasn't gaining enough...

Re: From not enough to too much. Ugh!

  • Don't feel bad. With DD, I was told I was on the low end when I had only put on 4 lbs by 20 weeks, and then my doctor nearly fell over when I gained 12 pounds that next month. Mh was like "Wow, you didn't hold back there, did you!" Haha.

I'm sure you'll be fine. I doubt you'll put on another 25 lbs in the next 10 weeks. And even if you did, and you're eating healthy, it's what your body needs to sustain a healthy pregnancy. Or at least that's what my friend and I rationalized the first time around. She gained 50 and lost it all instantly after the baby. She wasn't eating crazy, but did indulge every now and then (just like non-pregos).

  • I'm not nearly there yet, but from what I've heard from other friends, they often have a "weight gain spurt"  (like growth spurt!)  and that is totally normal!  I'm sure different OBs have different perspectives too!
    good luck.

  • I think it's pretty common to have spurts of weight gain. I remember having a couple with my older DS. I probably gained the least weight in the third tri. Everyone is different. This time for me the weight gain is needed, but scares me a bit (15lbs last month alone!)
